Hansen Delivers OPTIFLOAT for Princess

Onboard Napa Loading Computer-Optifloat Module

Knud E. Hansen USA LLC delivers a comprehensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for trim management onboard the Princess Cruises Grand Class Vessels. As part of an ongoing cooperation with Onboard NAPA Ltd., Knud E. Hansen USA has provided CFD analysis covering a large range of trim/draft/speed conditions for numerous ship owners to be used in the Onboard Napa Loading Computer-Optifloat Module. Optifloat is a tool developed by Onboard NAPA Ltd, which provides the vessel crew with a recommended optimal floating position for voyage planning.

Heikinheimo New President of Napa Group

Juha Heikinheimo

Juha Heikinheimo (54) was appointed President of Napa Group (Napa Ltd), a leading provider of software solutions for the maritime industry. The appointment takes effect on September 1, 2011. Mr Heikinheimo assumes the position from Matti Salo, who successfully served as President of Napa Group for eleven years. Mr Salo will continue as President of the subsidiary, Onboard-Napa Ltd. He will focus his attention on customers and boosting the growth of the NAPA for Operations business. Heikinheimo has extensive experience of the shipbuilding industry.

Napa Signs an Agreement with DSME

Onboard-Napa Ltd. signed an agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marube Engineering Co. Ltd.(DSME). DSME and Napa are both committed to environmental protection and ecological sustainability. “This co-operation strengthens our capability to provide our customers a software solution which covers current recommendations and future requirements for energy efficient planning of ship operation”, says Sebastian Sjöberg, Area Sales Manager at Onboard-Napa. “NAPA-DSME Power® is used to obtain the most optimal trim, route, speed profile, and engine configuration for any given voyage.

Holland America Line Selects the NAPA

Helsinki, Finland 22 March 2011 - Onboard-Napa Ltd, the leading software house for ship operations, has signed an agreement with Holland America Lin. Onboard-Napa will deliver a solution of NAPA Voyage Reporting and NAPA Electronic Logbook together with NAPA Office reporting portal for Holland America Line's 15 ships. NAPA Voyage Reporting is designed to be a fleet-wide reporting tool, thus enabling ship comparison, for instance energy efficiency, fuel consumption and water production/consumption.

NAPA Software Solutions Applied For The P&O Ferries Newbuilding The Spirit Of Britain

STX Finland Rauma shipyard has successfully appliead NAPA for finding the optimum subdivision design for the P&O Ferries 49.000 GT newbuildings. These ships are the largest ferries ever to operate in the English Channel. The stability of the vessels complies with the Stockholm Agreement and naturally also with the SOLAS 2009 requirements. New CADCAM Solution

Working in cooperation, Napa Ltd and DRS Defense Solutions, LLC, Advanced Marine Technology Center (DRS DS AMTC) have created a new interface between NAPA and MAESTRO software. Interfacing these two products will increase efficiency in the early stage of ship structural design, analysis and evaluation process by allowing the designer to leverage one 3D model from start to finish within the scope of structural design and direct analysis. This will eliminate the very common practice of recreating 3D structural models to serve different activities. “This will be the most extensive finite element interface in NAPA, and it will help to shorten the overall time in structural analysis significantly,” says Tomi Holmberg, Manager at NAPA Business Unit.

NAPA Power for Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), based in Miami, has completed the fleet installation of the NAPA Power fuel economy system developed by Onboard-Napa Ltd. At NCL, initial piloting of NAPA Power yielded such positive results that the company decided to expand the use of NAPA Power throughout its fleet in order to maximize the benefits. The system is installed with the Speed Pilot module, which allows automatic control of optimized speed. Precise speed control enables maximized savings and reduces the workload on the bridge. NAPA Power system assists the Master in planning and executing voyages, the aim being to reach the destination on time at the lowest possible cost.

Napa Group Wins Internationalization Award

Her Excellency Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, has presented the 2008 Internationalization Awards to Napa Group, Avant Tecno Oy and Sunit Oy. The Feb. 19 ceremony was the 41nd in the history of the award. The objective of the Internationalization Awards, which are coordinated by Finpro, is to help businesses to operate in an international environment and to boost their ability to develop and adopt new operating models. The Award can be presented to a company or community that has actively participated in developing international Finland. The preparatory work and the choosing of the candidates for the Awards is done by Finpro in collaboration with the Association for Finnish Work. The Awards are donated by The Finnish Fair Corporation.

Lube Oils on Test

Modern tools of research take many, increasingly high-technology forms, but large test machinery is especially apposite to the marine field, with its blend of applied science and solid, practical disciplines. Lubmarine has ploughed $2-million into a new, purpose-built test engine in France. Derived from a five-cylinder medium-speed diesel of the MAN B&W 16/24 type, the Innovator-4C evaluation and research engine is due to be brought into service this month (May) at the TotalFinaElf Research Center (CRES) at Solaize, near Lyons. It will replace the single-cylinder, Elf-Optimizer test bench, based on a Pielstick PC2.6 engine, first installed at Solaize 20 years ago and extensively modified in 1994 in response to changing development requirements.
