Conference on Legal Issues Relating to Shipping

Hinode Maritime Events informed that it is organizing a "Conference on Legal issues relating to Shipping". It is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in the Centrum, Center One, World Trade Center, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai. The Conference will offer opportunity to delegates at the forum to discuss legal issues pertaining to shipping and will see ship owners, ship agencies, shippers, insurers, maritime law fraternity, port authorities and other maritime interests who have already registered. Recent legal developments and case studies having an impact on shipping will be the focus in the deliberations. New York's One WTC Spire Nears End of 1,500 Mile Tow

The spire that will crown the jewel of the Manhattan skyline is making its way over the holiday weekend towards One World Trade Center. A barge carrying eight of the 18 sections of spire for One WTC is en route to New York City on a 1,500 nautical-mile journey south from Canada down the Atlantic seaboard on the Atlantic Salvor barge. The vessel left Valleyfield, Quebec, on November 16 and is expected to arrive early next week at Port Newark. The sections of the spire, ranging in weight from approximately five tons to more than 67 tons, will then be readied for transfer to Lower Manhattan. The remaining smaller pieces, which will travel from Canada via truck, are expected to arrive in mid-December.

ABS Reports All Employees Evacuated Safely From World Trade Center Office

ABS confirms that all employees of its New York Executive Office, located on the 91st floor of One World Trade Center, evacuated safely from the building. The office normally staffs 22 people. At the time of tragedy 16 employees were either in the office or in transit to the office. All 16 employees are accounted for. Physical injuries were limited to minor cuts and abrasions. "It is miraculous given the point of impact of the aircraft was immediately above the ABS offices," said ABS Chairman and CEO Frank J. Iarossi. Day to day operations of ABS are unaffected by the loss of the New York office which will temporarily relocate to New Jersey and is expected to reopen on September 17 .

John McMullen Dies at 87

John J. McMullen, maritime industry icon, former owner of the New Jersey Devils and the Houston Astros, died September 16 at the age of 87. McMullen founded John J. McMullen and Associates (JJMA) in 1957, a naval architectural and engineering firm that once occupied the 30th floor of One World Trade Center in Manhattan. At first the firm concentrated on ship containerization and bulk transportation, but it soon became noted for naval engineering and ship design. The company's current emphasis on defense contracts came later. JJMA is the lead naval architect of the winning design for the US Navy's DDX program.
