BMT's Catriona Savage Named RINA President

Catriona Savage, BMT’s Technical Assurance and Capability Director, has been names President of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). She is the organization's first woman President.Savage, who is Honorary Professor at University College London Mechanical Engineering Department, takes over the RINA Presidency from Maurizio d’Amico who has served the institution over the last two years.Commenting on her presidency and vision for the future, Savage said, "I have been a member of RINA for over 25 years since I joined as a student at Southampton University.

Maritime Academies Work Toward Inclusion

Last May, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (CGA) announced that 240 new officers made up its 140th graduating class.The Academy’s announcement referenced additional, important highlights. Women made up 34% of the Class of 2021, and 34% of the graduates were from underrepresented minority groups. Even more focused was the statement that 22 African Americans “walked the stage,” the largest number in Academy history, and 2021 included the second highest number of Asian American and Pacific Islanders.To make the ceremony even more memorable, President Biden delivered the keynote address.

Damen Anchor & Chain Factory (AKF), in the Port of Rotterdam, informs it has completed its first online order transaction. Much of the Damen product range has had an online enquiry option for some time, though AKF is relatively new to the concept. And with Damen’s online presence growing constantly, there is a strong potential for future web-based commercial growth, the company said. Theo Kloosterman, AKF Manager, explains how the order was swiftly brought to fruition. “It started on February, Friday 13 – a lucky day,” he quipped.

Military Sealift Command Debuts New Public Website and Blog

Military Sealift Command launched its redesigned public website and blog July 16 and 17. The new website is available at www.msc.navy.mil and includes a dynamic, user-friendly interface with updated content about the command's mission, vision and support to warfighters worldwide. "These updates are designed to inform the general public and members of the media about MSC: who we are, what we do, and why our Navy needs its noncombatant fleet," said Rear Admiral T.K. Shannon. "MSC is committed to delivering meaningful and current information on its global operations while garnering feedback from its customers, and our website serves that purpose," Shannon said. As part of its new online presence, MSC's blog interface was updated as well.

ExxonMobil Marine Fuels (EMMF), the world's largest supplier of marine fuels, has launched its online presence at www.exxonmobilmarinefuels.com. The website offers a broad range of services, including online bunker enquiries and technical advice facilities. The site also provides a comprehensive overview of the specifications of the fuel sold by EMMF. EMMF's website also incorporates a supply directory that allows buyers to check fuel grades supplied at ports worldwide. "The site is intended to enhance our service to our customers, making it easier for them to obtain the information they need at their convenience. We plan many more features that will further increase the service levels provided by EMMF," Healey says.
