Online Tool to Help Manage Fuel Costs

We4Sea, a company focused on increasing the fuel efficiency and lower the emissions of seagoing ships, released an update of its online software platform. "The update is a next step in their mission to provide shipowners and ship charterers with improved analysis tools, and replace outdated noon-reports as the main source of management information," it said. LNG REPORT: LNG Bunkering Vessels Rise to Nine, 30 More to Come

DNV GL's New Project on EU LNG Market

Whilst LNG has proven to be a viable option as a bunkering fuel for ships, there are still challenges to the pace of its development and demand for LNG as a fuel. One of the obstacles to the accelerated uptake is the uncertainty regarding its availability. Matson Monitors Cylinder Liner Wear

The cylinder liner is a crucial part of a ship’s engine, as monitoring wear not only extends operational life but also prevents unexpected and costly repairs, with the average cost for a replacement liner at over $150,000. Matson has installed Parker Kittiwake’s LinerSCAN onto several of its vessels as part of a range of condition monitoring tools. Payback proved immediate, as on the first voyage after installation, the LinerSCAN system indicated increased wear on the cylinder liners.
