Fairbanks Morse to Supply Engine Parts for USCG Icebreaking Tugs

Fairbanks Morse Defense announced on Monday it has been awarded a five-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) requirements contract by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Surface Forces Logistic Center. The agreement, worth up to $13 million, makes FMD the required source of supply for all Opposed Piston (OP) Engine Parts listed in the contract’s schedule of supplies. These parts primarily support OP engines on nine 140-foot Bay Class Icebreaking Tugboats (WTGBs).Since 1977, WTGBs have been used as critical icebreakers on many Northeast and Midwestern U.S.

Sinopec in Its First LNG Bunkering Op in Weihai, China

China's Sinopec Corp announced on Monday it has completed its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation in Weihai, a major seaport in the eastern Shandong province.The bunkering, or marine refueling, operation transferred 250 tonnes of LNG by truck to a China Merchant Shipping vessel.Sinopec is China's largest supplier of marine fuels.The use of LNG as a marine fuel has been gaining traction amid a global push to reduce the shipping industry's carbon emissions. (Reporting by Roslan Khasawneh, Editing by Louise Heavens)

Greece Launches Search Op after Migrants' Boat Sinks Off Crete

Greece was searching for migrants who went missing after their sailing boat sank off the island of Crete, its shipping ministry said on Thursday.A nearby vessel spotted the boat after it sent a distress signal and reported it started sinking some 60 nautical miles southeast off Crete, it said.Some 36 migrants have been rescued so far, while a helicopter, two coast guard vessels and other boats sailing in the area were part of an ongoing search and rescue operation in high winds.The migrants said that a total of 45 people were on board the sailboat…

ClassNK Updates Condition Based Maintenance Guidelines

Classification society ClassNK released its CBM Guidelines (Edition 2.0) outlining revised rules for using condition based maintenance (CBM) in class surveys to promote the use of CBM technology. The guidelines are available to download free of charge via ClassNK’s website.ClassNK published its CBM Guidelines (First Edition) in 2019 to clarify required documents and the approval procedure for substituting CBM in place of periodical overhaul inspection for class maintenance surveys.

Cyclone Tauktae: Rescue Op Launched for 81 Offshore Oil Workers after Barge Sinks off Mumbai

The Indian Navy mounted a massive air and sea rescue mission on Tuesday for 81 missing oil workers and crew whose barge sank in heavy seas following a powerful cyclone that tore up the west coast of the country.Around 180 of those on board the barge were rescued from the water as it sank off Mumbai. Efforts had started to move crew stuck on a second barge that was driven aground by the storm, the navy said."There are waves of 20 to 25 feet, the winds are high and the visibility is low," said navy spokesman Vivek Madhwal.

MAN Energy Solutions said Wednesday it has won an order to supply its MAN B&W 7G80ME-GI Mk9.5 dual-fuel engines for a series of 10 300,000-dwt very large crude carriers (VLCC) being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co.
