25 More Years for Ocean Surveyor

Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet in Sweden has won the public tender for a contract to undertake a major life extension program on the survey and research vessel S/V Ocean Surveyor, owned by SGU, Sweden’s national geological survey agency.“We are happy to let Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet perform the extensive conversion of the vessel and are confident that she will be ready for another 25 years of marine surveying prior to the field season 2021. Ocean Surveyor is a key platform for many marine surveys conducted in Sweden, not only for SGU, but also for other operators hiring the vessel’s unique surveying facilities,” said Björn Bergman, operations manager at SGU.Ocean Surveyor will undergo the life-time extension over the course of 12 months.

EU Shipyards Specify Grease-Free Bearing System

Canadian provider of polymer bearing solutions Thordon Bearings said that its ThorPlas-Blue has established itself as the bearing of choice for deck equipment, with European shipyards and owners frequently specifying the grease-free bearing system as standard for vessels’ winches, fairleads, davits, capstans and windlasses.According to a press note from Thordon Bearings, Sweden’s Falkvarv AB, Oresund Dry Docks, and the Oskarshamnsvarvet shipyard have been particularly strong proponents of the grease-free bearing, with these yards maintaining an inventory of ThorPlas-Blue stock with which to replace worn and costly bronze bearings and bushings when vessels drydock for repairs.

Damen Signs EPC Contract with Swedish Coastguard

Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Kustbevakningen, the Swedish Coastguard (KBV), for modernization on the vessel KBV 181. The vessel was built as a patrol boat, but will after modification serve as a combination vessel, for both patrol and oil recovery. DSO Gets AAA Credit Rating

DSO wins Lifetime Extension of Stockholm Ferry

Damen Shiprepair Oskarshamnsvarvet (DSO) has won a public tender for the contract to undertake a lifetime extension project on the passenger ferry Waxholm II.Built in 1983, the 35.5 meter ferry carries up to 350 passengers and is operated by Waxholms Ångfartygs AB (Waxholmsbolaget), the public body responsible for public transport by boat in the Greater Stockholm region. She is owned by Region Stockholm, the regional authority.Waxholm II is scheduled to arrive at DSO on April 1st 2019 and will spend three months there before returning to service on July 3rd 2019.

Damen Bags Special Steel Tanks Contract

Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet Sweden has been awarded the contract to manufacture high-precision special steel tanks together with their integrated cassettes for OKG; operator of three nuclear reactors on Sweden’s Simpevarp peninsula. With two reactors due to be decommissioned and dismantled, the tanks will be used to store radioactive reactor parts as part of the disposal process. Swedish Ferry Repair Contract for Damen

Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet informs it has won a contract for the refit and repair works of a Swedish ferry from Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration). Awarded after a public tender process, the contract refers to the Castella, a 77-meter-long Ro-Ro ferry. Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet, part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, will complete the works between November 2017 and March 2018. Trafikverket, the Swedish governmental body responsible for national infrastructure, operates more than 40 different ferry routes that mobilize more than 60 ferries.

Damen Repair Yards Earn More ISO Certifications

A number of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion yards have recently or will soon achieve new ISO certifications as part of an ongoing initiative to standardize operating procedures across the group. Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSVl) have passed ISO 3834-2 certificate audits. This standard defines rigorous quality procedures for the fusion welding of metallic materials and represents the highest possible accolade in the welding industry. Damen Bags Maintenance Deal with Dutch, Swedish Navies

The Damen Shipyards Group informs it has signed a contract with the Dutch and Swedish Ministries of Defense for a seven-year, in-service maintenance contract covering a total of five tugs, all of which were purchased from Damen. The agreement with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) covers three Damen ASD 2810 Hybrid tugs. Two of these, the Noordzee and Waddenzee, were delivered in February and April respectively. The third, named the Zuiderzee, is due for delivery in June. Their maintenance will be provided by the nearby Damen Shipyards Den Helder.

Damen Shipyards Acquire Swedish Ship Repair Yard

Dutch shipbuilding and repair company Damen Shipyards Group has taken over the shares of Swedish shiprepair and maintenance yard Oskarshamnsvarvetin Oskarshamn. The acquisition was prepared in close cooperation with the owners and includes the full continuation of the repair yard, both as to current operations and personnel. Oskarshamnsvarvet is a shiprepair yard on the south-east coast of Sweden. It is specialized in the maintenance and repair of vessels up to 80 m and has built, repaired and maintained a substantial part of the Swedish coastal fleet since 1863. Apart from a floating dock, the company operates a slipway covered by a portal crane of 100 tons.
