Wärtsilä Engines Chosen for Ulstein-SunStone

The technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply the engines and exhaust gas cleaning systems for a new 104 metres long exploration cruise vessel. The ship is being built at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co shipyard in China for Sunstone Ships Inc of Miami, USA. There are options for an additional nine vessels. The contract with Wärtsilä was placed by Ulstein Design and Solutions of Norway, the company responsible for delivering the design and equipment package to the yard. The order was booked in June 2017. The full Wärtsilä scope of supply comprises two 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 engines fitted with the Wärtsilä NOR (NOx Reducer) exhaust gas cleaning system, and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 engines.

Ulstein Delivers PSV Designs to Kuma

Kuma Shipping has ordered two ships of the new P128 design, a design developed to serve the general PSV market related to work-over barges and jack-up rigs. “This is a design that combines low fuel oil consumption with high carrying capacity at an attractive price,” said Ove Dimmen, area sales manager in Ulstein Design and Solutions. Dimmen and his team developed the Ulstein P128 with input from Kuma Shipping. The Hong Kong-based company ordered the basic design from Ulstein, and the vessels will be constructed at a Chinese shipyard with sufficient experience.

Ulstein Design Wins Order for 12

Ulstein Design AS agreed with Guangdong Machinery Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd. (GMG) to provide design services for 12 vessels of ULSTEIN A801 type. Ulstein Design has sold 60 ship designs since 2000. 25 are sold to Ulstein Verft in Norway. 35 are sold to shipyards in China, Spain, The Nederlands, Brazil and Dubai. “It has been a rewarding process to develop the ULSTEIN A801 design together with GMG, and we hope that this is the beginning of a lasting, productive cooperation,” says Ulstein Design market manager Ove Dimmen.
