HANSA HEAVY LIFT has transported the first-ever ship-to-shore (STS) cranes via the Northern Sea Route (NSR), relocating them from the port of St Petersburg to the port of Vostochny, spanning both the European and Far East regions of Russia. Royal IHC Bags Uruguay Order for TSHD
Royal IHC has signed a contract for the design, construction and delivery of a 4,200m3 trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) with Administración Nacional de Puertos (ANP) in Montevideo, Uruguay. The contract was signed by Mr Alberto Diaz Acosta, President of the Board of Directors of ANP, Mrs Gladis Liliana Peirano Rivero, Interim General Secretary of ANP and Mr Hans Hesen, IHC Area Sales Director, in the presence of Mr Victor Rossi, Minister of Transport and Public Works of Uruguay and Mr Andre Mechi, Senior Project Manager IHC Latin America. An important criterion for the award of this contract, as defined by the country’s Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, was to comply with the local content regulations, ensuring close participation of the local marine industry.
BP Selects Technip for Thunder Horse
Technip was awarded by BP Exploration & Production Inc. a lump sum project for the design, engineering, fabrication, installation and pre-commissioning of the new production pipeline systems on the south side of the Thunder Horse production drilling quarters unit. At a water depth of approximately 1,900 meters, the current field development is located in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 778 and 822, in the ultra-deepwater Gulf of Mexico environment. Royal Navy of Oman Takes Delivery of Damen Clipper
On September 12, the Royal Navy of Oman formally accepted ownership of its new sail training vessel at a ceremony at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. The three-masted steel clipper, named RNOV Shabab Oman II, will sail the world’s oceans as an ambassador for Oman, demonstrating the country’s centuries-old maritime tradition. The 87-metre vessel is Damen's third such clipper, proving the value of Damen’s reliable craftsmanship and engineering. Among the guests at the ceremony were representatives of the Royal Navy of the Netherlands and Omani diplomats.

Technip was awarded by Deep Gulf Energy II LLC a lump sum contract for the development of the Kodiak field, located in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 727 and 771, in the Gulf of Mexico, at water depths ranging from 1,472 meters to 1,710 meters. The project consists of a subsea tie-back to the Devils Tower Truss Spar located in Mississippi Canyon Block 773. To withstand Kodiak field’s high temperature and pressure as well as extremely corrosive production fluids, the pipeline will be of a bi-metallic construction, lined with corrosion resistant alloy(1). Lockheed Martin in Australian Wave Energy Project
Lockheed Martin says it has signed a contract with Victorian Wave Partners Ltd. to begin developing the world’s largest wave energy project yet. The 62.5-megawatt peak power wave energy generation project will be built off the coast of Victoria, Australia, using Ocean Power Technologies' (OPT) PowerBuoy® wave energy converter technology. The company’s PowerBuoy wave generation technology uses a "smart," ocean-going buoy to convert wave energy into low-cost, clean electricity. Technip wins Discovery System lump sum pipeline installation contract for Discovery’s South Timbalier Block 283 Junction Platform project. David Dickson, Technip’s Senior Vice President, North America Region, declared: “This award is the largest-diameter pipelay contract for Technip in the Gulf of Mexico, thanks to the acquisition of Global Industries. The pipelines will be installed between existing facilities in South Timbalier 280 and Ewing Bank 873 and the new platform in Block 283, at water depths ranging from 83 to 244 meters. • 13.9 kilometers of 30” pipeline. Technip awarded an important EPCI contract for the G1200 to develop the Starfish field in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Technip wins a lump sum engineering, procurement, commissioning and installation (EPCI) contract with BG International Ltd (BG) for the development of the Starfish field. Located in the East Coast Marine Area, offshore Trinidad, the field lies at a water depth of approximately 130 meters and will be tied back to the existing Dolphin ‘A’ Platform operated by BG. Technip's operating center in Houston, Texas will perform the overall project management with detailed design being completed by Genesis, a wholly-owned Technip subsidiary. Technip awarded Murphy Exploration & Production Co. contract for development of Dalmatian Field in Gulf of Mexico. The lump-sum contract is for work at a water depth ranging from 530 to 1,800 meters on a field jointly owned by Murphy and Ecopetrol America Inc., comprised of the De Soto Canyon Blocks 4, 47, 48 and 91. The project consists of a subsea tie-back to an existing Gulf of Mexico platform. The contract covers: project management, engineering, fabrication and installation of a gas riser, an oil riser, a 38-kilometer flowline and a 34-kilometer pipe-in-pipe flowline with associated PLETs and jumpers; installation of a main subsea control umbilical, infield umbilical, and associated foundation and flying leads, then pre-commissioning.

Technip was awarded a lump sum contract by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for the development of the Lucius field, located in the Keathley Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico, at a water depth of approximately 7,000 feet (2,130 meters). The contract covers installation of a flexible flow line, multiple flexible gas lift jumpers; main gas lift and infield umbilicals; subsea distribution units; electrical, fiber optic and hydraulic flying leads; • design and fabrication of the flexible flowline end termination; fabrication and installation of rigid jumpers; • burial of flow lines; • flooding and hydro-testing of the flowline system. Technip Wins Lump Sum GOM Contract
Technip was awarded a lump sum contract by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for the engineering, construction and transport of a 23,000 ton truss Spar hull for their Lucius project in approximately 7,100 feet (2,165 meters) of water depth in the US Gulf of Mexico, with first oil being scheduled in 2014. Lucius will be the seventh Spar Technip has delivered to Anadarko.The Lucius truss Spar floating production facility will have a nameplate capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil per day and 450 million cu. ft. of natural gas per day. Technip’s operating center in Houston, Texas, will provide the overall project management. The detailed hull design and fabrication will be carried out by Technip’s yard in Pori, Finland.
Technip: LOI for the Lucius Project in GOM
Anadarko Petroleum issued a Letter of Intent to Technip for the engineering, construction and transport of a 23,000 ton Truss Spar hull for their Lucius field development. This field is located in approximately 7,100 ft.(2,165 m) of water, in the US Gulf of Mexico. This Letter of Intent allows Technip to begin preliminary work on the project including purchase of long lead items for the hull in advance of the planned sanction date of December 2011. The Lucius Spar will have a capacity of more than 80,000 barrels of oil and 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
MHI Order for Ballast Water Treatment System
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order from Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) for conversion and installation work of a ballast water treatment system on NYK's Auriga Leader, a pure car/truck carrier built by MHI and already in service. The work on order, to be completed by the end of June, will be performed at MHI's Yokohama Dockyard & Machinery Works in Kanagawa Prefecture, where the Yokohama Ship Repair & Marine Engineering Department and the "Ballast Water Treatment Project Team" are located.
USACE Completes Dredge Hurley Extension
The Corps of Engineers Memphis District Ensley Engineer Yard (EEY), in partnership with the Corps of Engineers Marine Design Center (MDC) in Philadelphia, Pa., completed the lengthening of the Dredge Hurley by 48-feet. The project increased the dredge’s length from 305 to 353 feet, making it one of the largest vessels on the river and increased the dredge’s dredging depth from 40 to a maximum of 75 feet. Undersea Search Team Locates Missing Submarine
A team of underwater search experts from the U.S. has located the wreckage of Israeli submarine Dakar in 9,600 fsw in the Eastern Mediterranean. The search team, headed by Nauticos Corporation of Hanover, Md., consisted of Williamson and Associates of Seattle, and Phoenix Marine, Inc. of Arlington, Va. Initial detection of the wreck was accomplished using a side scan sonar system. After detecting a strong target on two sonar passes, the search team deployed a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to perform a detailed video inspection of the wreck. Video images from the ROV enabled topside naval experts to positively identify the wreck as Dakar. Dakar and its 69 member crew disappeared mysteriously on January 25, 1968.
ABS Classes Kerr-McGee Truss Spar
ABS is launching an integrated project team structure to facilitate the delivery of its classification services, with Kerr-McGee Corporation’s recently sanctioned “Constitution” truss spar slated as the first to benefit from the enhanced process. Destined for Green Canyon Block 680 in 5,000 ft. of water, Kerr-McGee will use the “Constitution” spar to develop its 100-percent owned field in the Gulf of Mexico. The project development strategy—internal to ABS—is supported with a proprietary technology tool, “02E” or “Engineering 2000,” to provide global, real-time electronic review of the customer’s drawings and improved project control.
