Saudi Arabia: IMI, Zamil in Offshore Support Vessel JV

BAE Systems Wins U.S. Navy Contracts

British multinational defence company BAE Systems has received $170.7 million in contracts from the U.S. Navy to perform simultaneous maintenance and repair on two Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) guided-missile destroyers in its San Diego shipyard.Under the awarded contracts, the shipyard will tandem dry-dock the USS Stethem (DDG 63) and USS Decatur (DDG 73) in October. The synchronized two-ship docking will be a first for the company’s newest dry-dock in San Diego. BAE Systems to Modernise USS Shoup

BAE Systems has received a $78.8 million contract for the maintenance and modernisation of the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, USS Shoup.The value of the competitively awarded contract could reach $87.6 million if all options are exercised, said a press release.According to the release, the scope of the depot modernisation period availability includes dry-docking the ship and performing underwater hull preservation works. BAE Systems will also upgrade the ship’s Aegis combat system and its command and control equipment, and rehabilitate crew living spaces.“The Shoup availability is a large, complex repair job,” said David M. Thomas Jr., vice president and general manager of BAE Systems’ San Diego Ship Repair.

Wärtsilä Inks Distributor Deal with Heinzman

Wärtsilä Canada Inc. has signed an agreement with Heinzmann GmbH & Co. KG to become Heinzmann’s  Authorized Central Distributor in Canada. Aligned with Wärtsilä’s QuantiServ business, the agreement provides Heinzmann’s Canadian customers in the marine and energy industry an opportunity to repair, replace and upgrade their existing control and monitoring systems through Wärtsilä Canada. This is supported by the factory-qualified engineering, field service and workshop staff of Wärtsilä Canada.

BAE Systems to Modernize Cruiser USS Vicksburg

BAE Systems will perform ship alternations and miscellaneous repairs aboard the 567-foot-long USS Vicksburg (CG 69) under a $42.9 million U.S. Navy contract. The value of the competitively awarded contract could reach $45.9 million if all options are exercised. Under the special selected restricted availability (SSRA) contract, BAE Systems will perform ship alternations and miscellaneous repairs aboard the 567-foot-long ship, including the replacement of critical aluminum structures. The work is expected to begin in April and be completed by September at the company’s Norfolk, Virginia shipyard. The Vicksburg is the second East Coast-based guided missile cruiser to undergo extensive repair and upgrade work as part of the Navy's long-term modernization program for cruisers.

Wärtsilä, Ensco Ink Maintenance Deal

Wärtsilä, the leading global supplier of flexible and efficient power plant solutions and services, has signed a maintenance agreement with Ensco, a global provider of offshore drilling services to the petroleum industry. The agreement, signed in September 2015, will create both short- and long-term savings by optimising Ensco's assets and improving predictability through extensive condition monitoring services and parts supply management for Ensco's four drillships equipped with six Wärtsilä 32 engines. In the offshore markets, Wärtsilä's customers are continuously seeking increased reliability, maximum uptime and optimal operational efficiency as well as ensuring safe and sustainable environmental performance in harsh environments.

Superyacht Marina Planned at San Juan, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Ports Authority issues RFP for Marina District. The Puerto Rico Ports Authority (PRPA), a public corporation and government instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the leasing, design, construction, operation and financing of the rehabilitation, improvement and operation of the Isla Grande Dry Dock ("IGDD") in the City of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the design, construction, financing, and development of a superyacht marina complex. The PRPA is seeking comprehensive proposals from highly qualified developers and operators of luxury marinas and vessel maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities.

Rolls Royce Sells Energy Gas Turbine Business To Siemens

Britain's Rolls-Royce Plc said it would sell its energy gas turbine and compressor business to German conglomerate Siemens AG for 785 million pounds($1.33 billion). Rolls, whose energy gas turbine and compressor business has around 2,400 employees, said Siemens would pay a further 200 million pounds for a 25 year licensing agreement granting access to relevant Rolls-Royce aero-derivative technology. "This agreement will give the Energy business greater opportunities as part of a much larger energy company and allows Rolls-Royce to concentrate on the areas of business where we can add most value," Rolls-Royce Chief Executive, John Rishton said in a statement.

J.F. Lehman Sells Northeast Ship Repair

J.F. Lehman & Company, a middle-market private equity firm focused on the maritime, defense and aerospace sectors, announced today that it has sold its portfolio company, Northeast Ship Repair, Inc. to affiliates of Plexus Capital and NewSpring Capital. The sale of Northeast Ship Repair follows J.F. Lehman's recent sales of ACR Electronics and Drew Marine, both announced on November 19. Northeast Ship Repair is a provider of large vessel maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the U.S. Government noncombatant fleet and commercial customers.

Wärtsilä Canada Open New Repair Shop

The workshop in Victoria is fully equipped to perform overhauls and repairs on engines as well as propulsion equipment. The premises situated at 1759 Sean Heights in Saanichton covers 500 square metres and has been built according to latest workshop standards with two 10-tonne cranes. Wärtsilä Canada now operates in Vancouver (Richmond), Victoria, Montreal, Halifax (Dartmouth) and St. John's with Vancouver being the head office and centre of excellence for reconditioning services for the America's region. Each location is capable of handling all Wärtsilä OEM engine workshop services as well as engine repairs and overhaul services for other manafucturers' equipment including MAN, B&W and Pielstick.

Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine Inc. has teamed up with Great Lakes Shipyard, a division of The Great Lakes Towing Company, Cleveland, OH to create a state-of-the-art marine service center to improve and grow their respective vessel repair and overhaul businesses in the Great Lakes Region. The long-term agreement, effective June 1, 2011 is the latest stage in the development of a global Marine Service Center network, which brings the expertise of Rolls-Royce engineers to customers around the world. Vericor Power Systems Signs Agreement With MTU Friedrichshafen

Vericor Power Systems announced it has signed an agreement with MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH (MTU), whereby MTU will package and distribute Vericor’s TF™40 and TF™50 aeroderivative marine gas turbines. The Vericor/MTU-F distribution agreement will greatly supplement Vericor’s direct marketing activities for the TF series gas turbines to worldwide marine customers. The TF40 is rated at 4,000 shaft horsepower (shp)/2,983kilowatts (kW) and the TF50 provides 5,100 shp/3,803 kW.
