Maersk and Other Danish Firms Partner for Sustainable Fuels Project

A group of Danish transportation and energy companies including shipping giant A.P. Moller - Maersk have teamed up to develop an industrial-scale production facility to produce sustainable fuels for road, maritime and air transport in the Copenhagen area.Maersk is joined in the project by DFDS, Ørsted, Copenhagen Airports, SAS and DSV Panalpina, who have brought together the demand and supply side of sustainable fuels to develop a new hydrogen and e-fuel production facility as soon as 2023.

CMA CGM Enters Sustainability Partnership with Panalpina

Panalpina Acquires Egyptian Agent Afifi

Switzerland-based supply chain solutions provider Panalpina is to acquire its Egyptian agent Afifi, a family-owned company specializing in freight forwarding, customs clearance and logistics. The move is an important step in Panalpina’s continued strategic expansion in growth economies, in particular in the Middle East and Africa, the company said. Afifi has been Panalpina’s agent in Egypt for the last 20 years. “Egypt has a lot of potential for us,” said Peter Triebel, Panalpina’s regional CEO for the Middle East, Africa and CIS.

Hamburg Süd Receives Panalpina Award

Hamburg Süd has been recognized for the first time with the “Carrier of the Year” Award by the internationally operating transport and logistics group, Panalpina, based in Basle/Switzerland. Peter Frederiksen, Member of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, accepted the award at the shipping company’s headquarters in Hamburg in mid-January. The Panalpina Award is the result of the “Panalpina Ocean Freight Carrier Survey 2014”, for which the company asks around 1,700 employees worldwide to evaluate their daily dealings with various shipping lines according to different criteria.

DHL Expects Immunity in Price Fixing Investigation

Deutsche Post expects its DHL forwarding business to be granted immunity from prosecution and fines by Singapore antitrust authorities, who are investigating 11 companies for alleged price fixing, the German logistics company said. The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) said this month it was investigating 11 freight forwarding companies, including Deutsche Post unit DHL Global Forwarding, for alleged price-fixing of air freight forwarding services. Deutsche Post told Reuters last week that the probe related to pricing and surcharges in the forwarding industry from 2002 to 2007. Forwarders buy cargo space from airlines, shippers and truckers and bundle shipments for customers, such as carmakers, high-tech firms and agriculture firms.

Logistics Revenues Surpass Pre-recession Levels

The latest report from Ti, Global Transport and Logistics Financial Analysis 2013, reveals the winners and losers in the global logistics industry over what has been a tempestuous six year period. Analyzing the financial accounts of 20 of the world’s largest publicly quoted express and logistics companies, the report tracks company performance in terms of revenues, profitability and other financial ratio indicators over the six years. The report reviews mainstream logistics activities on a combined basis as well as across three individual sectors – contract logistics, freight forwarding and freight and trucking.
