Kiel’s Forest Products Center Launched

Kiel’s new forest products handling and distribution centre has gone into operation in the Ostuferhafen. This means that the port has now become an integral part of the logistics chain operated by the Swedish concerns Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) and Iggesund Paperboard. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director of the Port of Kiel (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG) said: “We have created a terminal in the Ostuferhafen which is tailor-made to the requirements of our customers. In addition to that, Kiel’s geographical location fits very well into the SCA liner network”. SCA cargo ships from Sundsvall have been calling at the Ostuferhafen once a week since the beginning of the month, offloading 6,000 tons of forest products with each visit.

Singapore Regulations from ChartCo

ChartCo Ltd, provider of electronic data direct to ships at sea, has added the Singapore Flag State Regulations to its RegsManager product.  The regulations have full equivalence to the paper product and subscribers get access on-line and via CDROM.  The addition of Singapore follows close on the heels of Gibraltar and brings the number of states now available to 10. The service provides the user access to local maritime legislation and the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority’s notices. In common with all RegsManager products, it also links directly to relevant International conventions such as SOLAS, MARPOL and STCW. (www.chartco.com)
