Carnival UK Announces Executive Appointments

Carnival Corporation & plc announced that David Dingle has been appointed chairman of Carnival UK and David Noyes, currently executive vice president operations, has been promoted to the CEO role, with operating responsibility for the UK-based brands P&O Cruises and Cunard Line. Dingle and Noyes will take up their new roles on October 1, and will both report to Carnival Corporation & plc president and CEO Arnold Donald. “This moves allows us to strengthen further our overall leadership in the critically important UK marketplace, while also promoting from within to leverage the skills, experience and capabilities of our executive team,” Donald said.

Seafarers’ Charity Welcomes National Ferry Fortnight

Seafarers’ charity the Apostleship of the Sea has welcomed the 2013 launch of National Ferry Fortnight and the focus it gives to the hard work of ferry crews. Each year, the Passenger Shipping Association promotes a National Ferry Fortnight. This year’s two-week event will take place from  March 2-16. The fortnight is designed to improve awareness of the UK’s 50 ferry routes. In ports around Great Britain, and around the world, the port chaplains of the Apostleship of the Sea visit ferry crews, to support the crew when needed and to lend a friendly face and a listening ear, providing practical and spiritual support for each and every crew member. Ferry crews and staff are one of the critical success factors for a safe and smooth voyage.

Cruise Trade Association Goes Global

9 cruise industry associations to operate under a common organization with a unified structure to better serve the industry. The new association was created to provide increased benefits and a globally unified voice for cruise lines, travel agents and business partners – all of whom contribute to an industry that creates nearly $100 billion in economic impact and more than 753,000 jobs worldwide. For cruise lines, the new association offers a one-stop global resource on technical and regulatory issues and unified global communication and event coordination, all of which better leverage cruise lines’ investment in association membership. For travel agents, the new association offers more robust partnership programs and networking on a broader scale.

Cruise Lines Seek to Allay Public Safety Fears

Operational Safety Review:  As part of the cruise industry’s continuous improvement efforts to review safety measures, CLIA recently announced the launch of a Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review to respond to maritime safety issues that will be learned from the Concordia incident. The Review will include a comprehensive assessment of the critical human factors and operational aspects of maritime safety. Cruise Industry Adopts New Drill Policy

Best Practice Identified Through Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review. The global cruise industry today announced a new emergency drill policy requiring mandatory muster for embarking passengers prior to departure from port. The new policy follows the industry’s announcement on January 27 of a Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review in response to the Concordia incident and as part of the industry’s continuous efforts to review and improve safety measures. The Cruise Lines International Association, European Cruise Council, and the Passenger Shipping Association put forward the new policy with the support of their member cruise lines.

Stena Line Celebrates National Ferry Fortnight

Stena Line, the leading ferry operator, has announced it will be offering 15 per cent off bookings made between 14 and 28 May 2011, for travel completed by 8 January 2012 to mark the Passenger Shipping Association's third annual National Ferry Fortnight.
