MARAD Awards $19.6 Million in Small Shipyard Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced $19.6 million in grant awards to 24 small shipyards in 19 states through the Small Shipyard Grant Program.The funds will help awardees—many of which being family-run businesses—modernize, increase productivity and expand local employment opportunities while competing in the global marketplace, MARAD said.“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the American economy, and small shipyards play a critical role in America’s maritime industry, helping us get the goods we depend on every day,” said U.S.

Fishing Vessel Repurposed Following Conversion

A 170-foot long, 40-foot wide fishing vessel, now named Defender, recently underwent a significant conversion to become the first fish pumping vessel in the Global Seas and Patti Marine Enterprises Inc fleet. Selected to provide engineering services including structural and mechanical work for the conversion was Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company. Tugboat Fleet Expansion by Signet Maritime

Signet Maritime Corporation contracts Patti Marine Enterprises, Inc. in Pensacola, Florida, to construct tow Robert Allan designed tugs. Construction commenced in November 2012 with an expected delivery of December 2013 for the first vessel and March 2014 for the second vessel. Signet Continues Gulf Coast Fleet Expansion

Signet Maritime Corporation continues to expand its diverse fleet by awarding a contract for the construction of two Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs to Patti Marine Enterprises, Inc. in Pensacola, Florida. This marks the ninth Signet/Robert Allan Ltd. design in 5 years. Construction commenced in November 2012 with an expected delivery of December 2013 for the first vessel and March 2014 for the second vessel. Jensen Maritime-Designed Pushboat Delivered

The Jensen Maritime-designed river push boat, the M/V Stephenson II, has been delivered to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for use in Gascondale, MO, in the Corps' Kansas City district. Jensen performed the functional design and production lofting of the ABS Classed, 58-ft, 770-horsepower boat, which will provide operational support for the district's operations and maintenance mission on the lower Missouri River as well as for general construction and mitigation projects.
