New Shell CEO Sets Agenda

Speaking to investors, new Shell CEO Ben van Beurden updated on the company’s priorities: improving Shell’s financial results and achieving better capital efficiency, as well as continuing to strengthen operational performance and project delivery. Van Beurden, who became the new CEO of Royal Dutch Shell plc on January 1, 2014, said Shell’s strategy overall is sound. The company has a high quality portfolio and key strengths in technology and project delivery. Shell will continue to invest in new projects that deliver more energy to customers, and create value for shareholders.

Emir of Qatar Inaugurates Pearl GTL Project

His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, The Emir of Qatar officially inaugurated the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) Project, the largest GTL plant in the world and the largest energy project in the state of Qatar. Visiting dignitaries including HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, toured the facility and were briefed on the state-of-the-art technologies used to convert natural gas resources from Qatar’s North Field into high quality liquid fuels and products that will be sold at premium all over the world. Pearl GTL has been jointly developed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell creating an additional route for Qatar to generate value from its enormous supply of gas.

Offshore Solutions Gangway Provides 24 Hour Access for Platform

Offshore Solutions BV (OSBV) has been providing 24/7 personnel access for Pearl 1 Platform – one of two platforms providing offshore gas to Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project in Qatar - since the completion of sea trials in December 2010. Using the 20-metre Offshore Access System (OAS), mounted on the Bourbon Gulf Star vessel, the Qatar Shell operations, project and maintenance personnel have been able to access the platform 24 hours a day. The unique continuous connection capability of the OAS has been a key element of the marine access success story.

Pearl GTL Plant Open for Business

Qatar Petroleum and Shell announced that the Pearl gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant, located in Ras Laffan Industrial City in the State of Qatar, has sold its first commercial shipment of GTL Gasoil. The sale marks the start of production of GTL products when the State of Qatar and Shell, the operator of the Pearl GTL plant, begin to receive revenue from the project. Over the coming months, production will ramp up from the first production unit (‘train’) of the Pearl GTL project. The second train is expected to start up before the end of 2011. The plant is expected to reach full production capacity by the middle of 2012 and is the largest energy project ever launched in the State of Qatar. His Excellency Dr.

Offshore Access System Supports Qatar Project

Offshore Solutions B.V. (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland N.V., has commenced operations of its Offshore Access System (OAS) to support personnel transfer to and from the offshore component of the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project in Qatar. Pearl GTL, the world’s largest GTL plant, is being jointly developed by Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Shell. OSBV, which completed sea trials in December, was awarded the contract by Qatar Shell GTL Ltd for three years, with an option to extend the contract for a further two years.
