Shipbuilding: Ice-Class Expedition Yacht Named Crystal Endeavor

Crystal Endeavor, the 164 x 23-m, 20,200 GT ice-class expedition yacht was built at MV Werften and recently named in in Stralsund.The first luxury expedition yacht with ice class built in Germany is being dubbed 'the fastest, highest-performance and most spacious expedition mega yacht in its sector' with a passenger space ratio of more than 100. Her Polar Class PC6 classification enables her to navigate Arctic and Antarctic regions. She offers a total of 100 suites of between 28 and 105 m² with 24-hour butler service for a maximum of 200 passengers.

MV Werften Gets EUR 193M Loan to Complete Crystal Endeavor

German shipbuilder MV Werften has said it has secured a 193 million euro loan from the German government to complete the new polar class luxury expedition ship Crystal Endeavor and to keep the shipyard in operation till March 2021. New Cruise Ships Start Build in Germany

Genting Hong Kong and its Hong Kong–German shipbuilding group, MV Werften, announced a new Universal Class of cruise ships targeted at customers outside of Genting's cruise brand portfolio of Dream, Crystal and Star.The keel-laying of the second 208,000 gross ton Global Class ship for Dream Cruises took place December 10 at MV WERFTEN in Rostock.The midship section of the Global Class ship is being produced in Rostock. Global Dream Reaches Wismar

SHIPBUILDING: MV Werften Acquires Neptun Ship Design

The shipyard group MV WERFTEN is acquiring the Rostock-based Neptun Ship Design, Germany’s largest ship design office. Neptun Ship Design in Rostock is being acquired as an independent subsidiary of MV WERFTEN to provide design services for the shipyard group in future. In addition to the group’s own designers at its yards in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund as well as a designer network throughout Europe, further significant engineering capacities are thus being united under one roof.

MV Werften Rolls-out New Production Facility

Hong Kong–German shipbuilding company MV Werften put into operation the laser-hybrid welding line in its new hall 11 for producing panels measuring up to 25 x 16 meters for the Global Class cruise ships.Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Economics Minister Harry Glawe, representatives of Genting Hong Kong, MV Werften , the automation provider Pemamek as well as other project partners were present in the new Hall 11 when the plant produced its first weld seam.“The new plant enables us to make a significant increase in the capacity of our steel prefabrication for the Global cruise ships in Rostock and take a further, important step towards Industry 4.0.

Raimon Strunck (53) has been appointed as MV WERFTEN's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), taking over the newly created role on October 1. His responsibilities include project management, design, planning as well as procurement and logistics. He is a member of the senior management and reports to CEO Peter Fetten.Strunck has 24 years of professional experience in the shipbuilding industry. After studying mechanical engineering at the University of Hanover, he held various positions in the areas of project management, sales and planning, working for different shipyards in Germany and abroad.

Keel Laid for Dream Cruises’ New 204,000 gt Ship

A keel laying ceremony for Dream Cruises’ Global-Class flagship was held at MV WERFTEN’s Rostock shipyard today.At 204,000 gross tons and with 2,500 suites and cabins, the new cruise ship designed specifically for the Asian market will be the largest ever to be built in Germany. The first section measuring 22 meters long, 26 meters wide and weighing 410 tons, about half of the full keel, marks the start of construction.Approximately 1,000 shipyard employees, partners and guests attended event.

Fetten Named CEO at MV WEFTEN

Maritime industry veteran Peter Fetten will take over as President & CEO of German shipbuilder MV WERFTEN as of May 1, 2018. Jarmo Laakso will remain as Managing Director and step into the position of COO to focus on cruise shipbuilding.Fetten was previously the Senior Vice President of Corporate Ship Refits at Carnival Corporation & PLC for the past nine years. He was also Vice President Newbuilding and Fleet Design of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. for eight years and held several executive positions during his 16 years at Blohm+Voss Shipyard.

SMM 2014 Witnesses Record Turnout
