GB Railfreight Launches New Intermodal Service from Felixstowe Port

The rail freight company in the United Kingdom, GB Railfreight has launched a new intermodal rail freight service connecting the Port of Felixstowe with the Birch Coppice terminal in the Midlands.The first locomotive on the service left Birch Coppice at 14:14 on 23 January 2019 and arrived at Felixstowe at 20:14, having passed through Hams Hall, Leicester, Peterborough and Ipswich along the way. Made up of 33 platforms, the service transports a mixture of intermodal containers, and will initially run 5 days a week.Commenting on the new service, Clemence Cheng, Chief Executive Officer at the Port of Felixstowe and Executive Director of Hutchison Ports, said: "We are delighted to welcome this latest service offering from GB Railfreight.

Rolls-Royce to Equip UK Navy's Type 26 Warships

Rolls-Royce Canada said it has won a contract with BAE Systems for its mission bay handling technology for the U.K. Royal Navy’s new Type 26 Global Combat Ship. The contract covers the first three ships, the first of which is currently under construction at the BAE Systems Glasgow shipyard, Scotland. Milestone for Canada’s Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships

GE’s Marine Solutions business in Peterborough, Ontario is completing one of the first milestones of the company’s seven-year contract with Irving Shipbuilding Inc.,(ISI) to provide electrical power, propulsion systems, installation and commissioning services for six ice-capable Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) for the Royal Canadian Navy. GE’s power and propulsion systems will position the new vessels amongst the highest performance in their class worldwide. Four diesel generators and engines have been shipped to ISI’s Halifax Shipyard, and GE has begun acceptance testing on the first AOPS propulsion motor, expected to ship in early July. GE suppliers located in Ontario are contributing to the project providing steel, skids, metal and machining.

Caterpillar Rejigs Top Deck

Caterpillar Inc. * Doug Hoerr has been appointed as vice president with responsibility for the Strategic Services Division. Caterpillar’s Board of Directors has appointed Julie Lagacy, a 26-year veteran of the company and currently vice president with responsibility for the Finance Services Division (FSD), as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and vice president with responsibility for the Global Information Services Division (GIS). In addition to leading FSD, earlier this year Lagacy assumed leadership of GIS following the departure of the former Chief Information Officer. She will continue to report to Brad Halverson, group president and Chief Financial Officer, and will also retain the Business Systems Transformation (BST) group.

Canadian Coast Guard Accepts New Hero-class Cutter

“Our Government is proud to accept the CCGS Corporal McLaren M.M.V. into the Canadian Coast Guard fleet,” said Minister Shea. The CCGS Corporal McLaren M.M.V. is a Mid-Shore Patrol Vessel that will be based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It was built in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by Irving Shipbuilding Inc. A formal naming and dedication ceremony will follow. The Hero Class vessels are 43 metres in length with a displacement of 257 tonnes and a top speed of 25 knots. Rolls-Royce has recently delivered 2 launch & recovery systems for unmanned surface vehicles (USV) & manned Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to an international navy. These systems have been retrofitted aboard frigates and utilize a custom articulating davit with a telescopic boom. More than 530 potential suppliers from across Canada gathered in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 for Irving Shipbuilding’s AOPS Supplier Development Session. Dresser-Rand Selected Supplies UA Shipping Co.

The United Arab Shipping Company has selected Dresser-Rand Company Limited, a subsidiary of Dresser-Rand Group Inc. (NYSE:DRC) , to supply turbo-compound energy recovery power gen6eration systems on board their new vessels being built by Samsung Heavy Industries of Korea . As previously reported, Dresser-Rand booked an order in October 2009 comprising nine steam turbine generator sets.
