CMA CGM Caps Logistics Push with $5 Billion Bollore Deal

US Trade Deficit Shrinks on Falling Imports

Rimfrost Taps Kongsberg for Krill Vessel Design and Equipment

SK Group Intros Bio Heavy Oil

South Korea's SK Chemicals Co has introduced a project to use bio heavy oil as vessel fuel amid rising demand for cleaner energy sources.The chemical and pharmaceutical unit under South Korean conglomerate SK Group has started safety and feasibility tests on bio heavy oil for powering large vessels like container ships, said a report in Pulse News.Bio heavy oil is environmentally-friendly fuel for power generation, made from animal fat, leftover cooking oil, and by-products of bio-diesel processing.According to the media outlet, SK Chemicals started bio heavy oil business in 2006.The company is the first in Korea to supply bio heavy oil to local power plants including state-run Korea Midland Power Co. in 2014.

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Tops for Jobs

Naval architecture and marine engineering degrees can lead to major job opportunities and high-salary careers.

The results of a recent survey conducted by financial services company Bankrate, LLC show that naval architecture and marine engineering take the top spot as the most valuable college degrees in which to major.A total of 162 degrees were covered in the company’s research. Drama and theater arts, on the other hand, were shown to be the least valuable degrees in terms of earning power after graduation. The survey revealed that the overall median income for those trained to build, design and maintain maritime vessels was $90,000 and that less than 2 percent of degree holders were unemployed.

MSC Isabella, Largest Boxship to Call in Singapore Port

The 23,656 teu MSC Isabella became the largest containership to call the Port of Singapore when it berthed on 10 November 2019.The MSC’s Gülsün-Class of container vessels is currently the world’s largest series of container ships.To date, MSC Isabella is the biggest container ship to call at Singapore, the world’s top transshipment hub. Measuring around 400 meters long and 61 meters wide, the ship can carry up to 24 rows of containers, with a height of 13 tiers on deck. Its total capacity is 23,656 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). Its length exceeds that of the Eiffel Tower and it can transport the equivalent of about 384 million pairs of shoes.Singapore is the ship’s first port-of-call in Asia after sailing back from Europe. The ship was delivered to MSC in August 2019.
