Philadelphia Gear Gets Offshore Contract

Philadelphia Gear Corporation announces an agreement with the Rowan Companies, Inc., of Vicksburg, Miss., to supply propulsion reduction gearing for the Gorilla VIII drill rig. Gorilla VIII is the latest addition to Rowan’s line of self-propelled jack-up drill rigs. Philadelphia Gear will provide Rowan with marine reduction gears, model 84 DHMGH. The gearing will be used to transmit 1500 hp from each of 4 variable speed DC motors at 1050 RPM to a fixed pitch propeller turning 280 RPM in the twin-screw installation. The gear drives for port and starboard, which are identical in this application, will be arranged for motors spaced 84 in. apart, two forward of the gears and two aft.

Philadelphia Gear Appoints Biddle As NE Regional Sales Manager

Philadelphia Gear Corporation announced the promotion of Scott Biddle, 36, to the newly created position of Northeast Regional Sales Manager. Biddle's new position includes management of sales growth throughout the eastern U.S. - an area already covered by himself, several Philadelphia Gear sales personnel, and three independent firms who represent Philadelphia Gear in their respective territories - along with the expansion of his own sales territory to include eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. As a regional sales manager, he will work to ensure that Philadelphia Gear customers are serviced in a fashion that meets their immediate needs.

Philadelphia Gear Appoints Verget as CFO

Philadelphia Gear Corporation announces the hiring of Stephen Verget to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Verget replaces Matt O'Reilly, and will be responsible for leading all accounting, financial analysis and treasury functions for Philadelphia Gear. He will also play a key leadership role in defining and executing Philadelphia Gear's evolving business model focused on specialized gear aftermarket service and marine propulsion drives. Verget brings with him 23 years of experience as a finance leader with E.I. DuPont de Nemours in a number of roles. He has held several business unit CFO positions within DuPont, including Agricultural Biotechnology, Advanced Materials, Agricultural Products North America, and Information Technology.

Philadelphia Gear Introduces Universal Cooling Tower Drive

Philadelphia Gear Corporation announces the availability of the new Universal Cooling Tower DriveTM. This new drive offers a solution to replace cooling tower drives and spare parts. The Universal Cooling Tower Drive comes in two sizes and replaces the eight most popular Philadelphia Gear cooling tower drive models currently in use. The new drive can also be used in place of most other drive brands, with minimal modification. Two primary design elements make the new cooling tower drive universal - its spacer plates and change gears. Base plate spacer adapters make the UCT Drive modifiable to virtually any legacy cooling tower application by adjusting the height of the output shaft.

FastShip Selects Gear Corporation As Supplier

FastShip, Inc. has reached an agreement with Philadelphia Gear Corporation to supply sophisticated transmission equipment for the company's high-speed trans-Atlantic fleet. The $35 million order is the largest in Philadelphia Gear's 100-year history, bringing more than 100 direct and indirect jobs to the region. Per the agreement, Philadelphia Gear will supply 20 gearboxes - five in each of FastShip's initial four vessels - plus one spare gearbox and additional parts, as well as a 10-year service maintenance package. The gears will help generate power for the vessels equivalent to two and a half times that of a jumbo jet. Philadelphia Gear will also participate in vendor financing of FastShip, which intends to complete its total financing package by year-end 1999.
