NYK-TDG Maritime Academy Graduates Its Class of 2016

The NYK-TDG Maritime Academy (NTMA), which is located in the suburbs of Manila and jointly run by NYK and the Transnational Diversified Group (TDG), proudly graduated the 117 students comprising the academy’s Class of 2016. NYK president Tadaaki Naito and TDG chairman J. Roberto C. Delgado, in addition to invited guests that included Ciriaco Lagunzad III, administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, participated in the graduation ceremony for the students, all of whom had enrolled in 2012. President Naito encouraged the students in his commencement address by saying, “Your time to make a difference has come. Under the severe business environment facing the shipping industry, ensuring a competitive advantage is important to continue developing.

NYK-TDG Maritime Academy Graduates Its Class of 2015

NYK-TDG Maritime Academy (NTMA), which is located in the suburbs of Manila and jointly run by NYK and the Transnational Diversified Group (TDG),* proudly graduated the 107 students comprising the academy’s Class of 2015 on September 21. NYK president Tadaaki Naito and TDG chairman J. Roberto C. Delgado, in addition to invited guests that included Hans Leo J. Cacdac, administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, participated in the graduation ceremony for the students, all of whom had enrolled in 2011. President Naito encouraged the students in his commencement address by saying, “You had to endure homesickness and adapt to different personalities and cultures while maintaining a positive outlook.

MPHRP Informs Seafarers of Services in Philippines

A two-day Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Awareness Campaign updated the seafarer public in Luneta Park, Manila of MPHRP’s programmes and services led by MPHRP Regional Director for Philippines/Southeast Asia Rancho Villavicencio and MPHRP Assistant Programme Director Hennie la Grange, July 23-24. In partnership with SEACOMS Maritime Development International, Inc., the Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme Philippines held its awareness campaign for the second time in Manila where a seafarer crowd was gathered to be informed of the programme’s existence and how MPHRP assists piracy survivors and their families locally.

MTC to Inspect Maritime Training Centers

Maritime training centers and schools offering maritime safety courses will be inspected by the Philippines Maritime Training Council of the Department of Labor and Employment to ensure they produce seafarers who meet the standards of the global maritime industry. DOLE said in a statement over the weekend that the MTC will inspect maritime training providers in accordance with the 1978 Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping Convention. MTC has begun inspecting the maritime training providers' facilities for maritime safety courses and applications for the mandatory management training courses for the Filipino seafarers.
