Aquina Named CEO at Hertel

Hertel hereby announces that Victor Aquina, currently Managing Director of the Hertel Caspian region and the former CEO of Nacap, will be appointed as CEO of Hertel as of 1 April 2014. He will succeed Paul Broekhuijsen who will leave the company as of April 1. Paul Broekhuijsen joined Hertel in April 2011 as CEO and has led the company through a major reorganization these last few years. The Supervisory Board is very grateful to Paul Broekhuijsen for his great contribution to the recovery of Hertel. ‘In 2011 we asked Paul to lead Hertel through a necessary recovery process.

Mike Robinson Appointed LR Customer Strategy Director

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has appointed Mike Robinson to the newly created role of Group Customer Strategy Director. He will guide and support the group’s businesses in designing, developing and implementing programs to meet the organization’s business objectives through customer segmentation, customer care and the effective use of key account strategies. Robinson started at LR on September 2, 2013 and brings extensive experience and expertise from a long career with blue chip companies. He joins LR from Royal Mail Group, where he was leading Group Strategy.

Carriers Ponder Dutch Ruling in CMR Dispute

Netherlands law firm AKD Prinsen Van Wijmen says a recent decision of the Dutch Supreme Court indicates that, whilst Holland remains an extremely carrier-friendly jurisdiction for disputes under the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), a much stricter approach is to be adopted to the Act of God exemption from liability for loss and damage under CMR. In its April 24 decision in Philips Electronics NV v Vos Logistics, the Supreme Court upheld the earlier decisions of the court of first instance and the Court of Appeal in finding that Vos Logistics could not rely on the CMR Article 17 (2) Act of God defence in respect of the theft of a consignment of electrical goods whilst enroute by road from Belgium to Warsaw, Poland.

MRG Promotes Sandaas to CFO

Marine Resources Group announced that Kirstin Sandaas has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer and Kevin Orstad has joined the company in the position of Group Controller. Sandaas joined MRG in the spring of 2004, and since that time has worked closely with the financial and operating divisions at the MRG group of companies. Her contributions include assisting in two corporate acquisitions, implementing an MRG-wide 401(k) program and assessing enterprise-wide systems solutions. Prior to joining MRG she held the position of Director of Finance at Sea Coast Towing. She served as Finance Manager at Optiva, makers of the sonicare toothbrush, working as an integral part of the team that helped sell the company to Philips Electronics.
