Philly Shipyard Workers Ink Four-year Labor Deal

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) announced that a new four-year collective bargaining agreement has been ratified by the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council (PMTC). Shipbuilders Council Announces 2022 Shipyard Safety Awards

The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, today announced the 2022 Annual Shipyard Safety Awards. SCA recognized a total of 15 U.S. shipyards and repair facilities with seven recipients receiving multiple awards.SCA honors shipbuilding and repair organizations with the “Excellence in Safety” Award and “Improvement in Safety” Award each year for enhancement of operations and promotion of safety and accident prevention.

L3Harris Selected for US Navy Submarine Tender Design Study

L3Harris Technologies announced it is one of three companies selected to provide Preliminary Designs for the next generation submarine tender, a support vessel that will provide expeditionary maintenance and repairs for U.S. Navy submarines.New York-listed L3Harris said it will support the development of the AS(X) ship specifications, interface specifications, ship cost estimates and construction schedules under the base AS(X) Concept Refinement and Preliminary Design contract.

ABS to Class First Jones Act-compliant Subsea Rock Installation Vessel

The Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company's new Jones Act-compliant Subsea Rock Installation Vessel, the first such ship to enter the U.S. market, is to be built to ABS Class by Philly Shipyard, Inc, ABS said Thursday.The vessel will transport and strategically deposit loads of up to 20,000 MT of rock on the seabed, laying scour protection for offshore wind farm foundations, cables, and other structures. It will be awarded the ABS SUSTAIN-2 Notation, recognizing adherence to certain UN Sustainable Development Goals related to vessel design, outfitting and layout.

MARAD Awards $20 Million in Shipyard Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) on Monday awarded $19.6 million in grants aiming to help 31 shipyards modernize, increase productivity, and expand local employment opportunities while competing in the global marketplace.The grants were awarded to shipbuilding and repair yards in 15 states throughout the U.S. as part of MARAD's Small Shipyard Grant Program. Since 2008, the program has awarded $262.5 million to nearly 300 shipyards in 32 states and territories.

Philly Shipyard Repairs MARAD Ship

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) , formerly Aker Philadelphia Shipyard,  has commenced work on its first contract to perform modernization, repair and maintenance work on a government ship, the SS Antares.The sole operating subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA said in a press note that the SS Antares is an Algol class vehicle cargo ship, owned by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) and managed by TOTE Services, LLC (TOTE) and undergoes routine repair and maintenance during its scheduled dry docking every five years.TOTE, as ship manager for MARAD, awarded the contract to Philly Shipyard.“I am thrilled and honored that Philly Shipyard has been selected for the Antares repair,” said Philly Shipyard President and CEO Steinar Nerbovik.

Philly Shipyard Q3 EBITDA Turns To Loss Of $28.9 Million

The U.S.-based shipbuilder reported operating revenues and other income for Q3 were USD $26.5 million, compared to USD $200.8 illion in Q3 2017.The firm also forecast that the ongoing Matson vessel newbuilding projects would be a loss making project.The firm further expects that it will suffer significant losses in 2018 and 2019.Ongoing WorkHull 029 production activities continue to progress in the Commissioning Dock and sea trials are expected to occur next month. Hull 030 production activities continue to progress in the Building Dock.

Mark Lamarre, who most recently served as CEO of Australian Shipbuilding Company (ASC), has been named CEO of Seaspan Shipyards effective immediately. Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) appointed Jari Anttila as Chief Operating Officer (COO), who has more than 25 years of experience in shipbuilding and industrial operations. Previously with Philly Shipyard Inc. where he served as Senior Vice President, Anttila has considerable experience in successfully leading organizations through large shipbuilding projects. Prior to joining Philly Shipyards Inc., he held positions as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President with Meyer Turku and its predecessors in Finland. Matson Christens First Aloha Class Vessel 'Daniel K. Inouye'

Largest Containership Built in U.S. Will Serve Hawaii. Matson, a U.S. flag carrier in the Pacific, and Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA (Oslo: PHLY) christened the largest containership ever built in the United States in a ceremony at the Philly Shipyard on Saturday, June 30. The new vessel is named 'Daniel K. Inouye' in honor of Hawaii's late senior U.S. Senator, who was a longstanding supporter of the U.S. maritime industry and its important role in supporting Hawaii's economy. It is the first of two new ships being built for Honolulu-based Matson by Philly Shipyard at a total cost of approximately $418 million for the pair, and the first of four new vessels that Matson will put into its Hawaii service during the next two years.

Philly Shipyard Lays Keel for Fourth APT Tanker

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA (Oslo: PHLY), held a ceremonial Keel Laying today for the fourth product tanker in a four vessel order for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a Kinder Morgan, Inc. subsidiary. Keeping with long held shipbuilding tradition, coins were placed on one of the keel blocks before the 650 ton unit was lowered into place in the dry dock. Representatives from Philly Shipyard and Kinder Morgan were in attendance to place the coins as a sign of good fortune and safe travels. Philly Shipyard representatives included the 15 new hires that began orientation on Monday, January 9.

Philly Shipyard Completes Tanker Series for APT

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) has delivered American Pride, the final vessel in a series of four 50,000 dwt product tanker newbuilds for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan, Inc. The 600-foot product tanker has a 14.5 million gallon carrying capacity and is based on a design from Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) that incorporates numerous fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability, and the latest regulatory requirements, the builder said.
