Australia Orders Two Cruise Ships to Leave ... Now!

Holland America Line Sells Prinsendam to Phoenix Reisen

The Seattle-based Holland America Line said its small ship  835-passenger Prinsendam had been sold to a company that would put it in service with a German cruise operator Phoenix Reisen. Holland America said the ship will leave the Holland America fleet on July 1, 2019. For sailings after July 1, 2019 Holland America Line says it is reaching out to booked passengers and their travel professionals to re-accommodate guests. At 37,983 tons, Prinsendam is more than 30% smaller than the next smallest vessel in the Holland America fleet. It's the only Holland America ship to carry fewer than 1,000 passengers — a level often seen as the threshold between a small and mid-size ship in the cruise world.

San Diego Expecting Larger Cruise Season

The Port of San Diego is preparing to welcome 83 cruise calls during the 2017-2018 cruise season, with a wide variety of itineraries visiting this inspiring destination. This season Holland America Line remains a strong presence on San Diego Bay along with continued growth from Disney Cruise Line. On Thursday, October 5, the Disney Wonder will be in port, along with Holland America Line’s Nieuw Amsterdam. Approximately 242,000 passengers are expected this year, up from last year’s 224,000. The number of cruise calls remains about the same. Passengers this season will be able to experience a relaxing California Coast cruise, an adventurous voyage around the globe, South Pacific cruises and much more.

Cruise ship 'Albatros' visits Townsville

MS Albatros, operated by German-based travel agency Phoenix Reisen, will visit Townsville tomorrow carrying approximately 612 passengers and 345 crew. This beautiful retro-style ship was built in 1973 by Wärtsilä Helsinki New Shipyard Finland and has been extensively refurbished over the years. She is 206 metres in length and her gross tonnage is 28,518 tonnes,   Passengers will disembark around 0830 and the ship departs at 1800.  A high proportion of the Albatross’ passengers are pre-booked on tours tomorrow (about 400), the remaining will be provided with the usual free shuttle buses to CBD and then City/Strand Loop bus throughout the day.

Halifax Port Gears for Busiest Cruise Season

The 2017 cruise season in Halifax will be the busiest to date. A record number of passenger visits and vessel calls will get underway on April 24, 2017 with the arrival of the Amadea, a Phoenix Reisen vessel. “We are very excited about the year ahead,” said Cathy McGrail, Interim Vice President, Operations, Halifax Port Authority. From April 24 to October 31, the Port of Halifax is expecting 179 vessel calls carrying approximately 275,000 cruise guests. For local tourism providers, planning for the upcoming season is well underway. “Those of us fortunate enough to live here know how special our region is,” said Dennis Campbell, CEO, Ambassatours Gray Line. “What drives us is the opportunity to share our attractions, our history and our culture with people from around the world.

Cruiseport Boston Closes Out 2016 Cruise Season

As Cruiseport Boston closes out its successful 2016 season, 2017 is already shaping up to be a record year with 151 calls scheduled for next cruise season. The 2016 season saw 115 calls by a record 32 unique ships with ten maiden calls to the port, including Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas, the largest cruise ship to ever call the Port of Boston. Cruiseport Boston has seen years of steady growth which has contributed to the booming cruise business in Boston.

V.Ships Extends Service Deal with Wärtsilä

Ship management company V.Ships has chosen Wärtsilä to provide maintenance services for its client Phoenix Reisen's cruise vessel M/S Artania. The five-year maintenance agreement covers the scheduled maintenance activities for M/S Artania's four Wärtsilä 32 main engines and one Wärtsilä 32 auxiliary engine as well as spare parts for them. SA Ports Gears for Cruise Season

South Africa’s ports are ramping up for another busy cruise season with at least14 luxury cruise lines and 20 vessels of varying sizesset to ferry international and domestic tourists across the country’s port cities. The 2016/17 South African cruise season kicks off on 1 November.MSC SINFONIA – the largest and most popular cruise ship in the local cruise calendar –will be a highlight when she arrives in her homeport of Durban in the early hours of Tuesday, 1 November on a journey from Venice, Italy, carrying 2600 European and South African passengers. The ship has been accommodated at the Port of Durban’s longer M berth since last year after being lengthened by 24 metres and undergoing a multi-million Euro revamp.

South Africa Ports Gear Up for Cruise Season

South Africa’s ports are ramping up for a bumper cruise season with at least eight luxury cruise lines and over ten passenger vessels of varying sizes set to ferry international and domestic tourists across the country’s port cities. The South African cruise season kicked off officially in October with a number of smaller vessels already having called at South Africa’s ports. They are en route to and from travel hotspots in Africa, Europe, the Far East, the Mediterranean, South America and more. However the MSC SINFONIA – a cruise ship in the local cruise calendar – marked a highlight in the 2015/16 cruise calendar when she arrived in her homeport of Durban in the early hours of Thursday, November 19. This was her first South African call this season.
