GEG to Power Port of Nigg Facilities with Green Hydrogen

In an eventful week in which its Port of Nigg was selected as a turbine foundation marshaling port for the giant Seagreen offshore wind farm, UK-based Global Energy Group said Thursday it had struck a deal to power its Port of Nigg facilities using green hydrogen, to significantly reduce emissions at the site.The company has teamed up with ScottishPower to identify processes and plant at the facility on Cromarty Firth that could be powered by green hydrogen.Green hydrogen will be generated at the Nigg site and used to power heavy plant…

Tomini Places Order for 3 Kamsarmaxes

UAE-based Tomini Shipping has increased its fleet size further with an order for three Kamsarmaxes. The 82,000 DWT ships are being built by Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co, a successful private shipyard in China with over 40 years of shipbuilding experience. The vessels are scheduled for delivery from the second half of 2019 onwards and follow the company’s order earlier this year for three newbuilding bulk carriers from another prominent Chinese shipyard. This latest deal underlines Tomini Shipping’s comprehensive fleet renewal strategy with the latest in quality, energy-saving, and fuel-efficient designs. The order will take Tomini’s fleet to over 18 vessels.

Junior Sailors Master Amphibious Watercraft

Australia's amphibious ships are driving responsibility and challenges to all levels of the crew, with leading seamen taking 'commanding' roles on the new landing craft. Leading Seaman Boatswains Mate Edward Holcombe is one of those sailors, in charge of one of HMAS Adelaide's landing craft - critical to the operational capability of the ‘mother-ship’. The craft are used to land and retrieve troops, vehicles and equipment on beaches as part of Adelaide’s amphibious capabilities. With four craft on board they can project 80 per cent of the amphibious power of the ship. They can carry 175 troops with packs and rifles, a range of plant machinery or light vehicles.

Bechtel Gets Navy Nuclear Propulsion Contract Modification

U.S. Department of Defense announce that Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc., Monroeville, Pennsylvania, is being awarded a US$17,792,893 cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-12-C-2106) for naval nuclear propulsion components. Work will be performed in Schenectady, New York (68 percent), and Monroeville, Pennsylvania (32 percent). DoD add that no completion date or additional information is provided on naval nuclear propulsion program contracts. Fiscal 2014 other procurement, Navy and fiscal 2014 shipbuilding and conversion, Navy contract funds in the amount of $17,792,893 will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, District of Columbia, is the contracting activity.

The name ‘MTU Reman Technologies’ might be new in the city of Magdeburg, Germany, but behind the Tognum subsidiary that remanufactures large diesel engines lies 175 years of industrial history. Navy Awards Multiple Nuclear Propulsion Contracts

According to reports, the U.S. Navy has awarded over $1b in contracts related to naval nuclear propulsion. On October 17, Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. in Schenectady, NY received a $267.5mcost-plus-fixed fee contract for naval nuclear propulsion components, raising its contracts awarded to $442.2 million total since Oct 1/06. Work will be performed in Pittsburgh, PA (52%) and Schenectady, NY (48%). The contract was not competitively procured (N00024-07-C-2101). On October 16, Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. in Schenectady, NY received a $44.8m cost-plus-fixed fee contract for naval nuclear propulsion components, which can be added to the Oct. 12, 2006 award to get a total of $174.7 million. Work will be performed in Schenectady, NY.
