Radio Holland Testing ASP LRIT for Dutch
Radio Holland Netherlands BV has been appointed by the Dutch Transport and Water Management Inspectorate (Inspectie Verkeer en Waterstaat), as Testing ASP for Dutch, Dutch Antilles and Aruban flag vessels, per November 1 2008. The first successful LRIT (Long Range Tracking & Identification) test resulted in the issue of the first “Statement of Conformity/LRIT Test Conformance Report” for the Dutch vessel ms. Alexandergracht of Spliethoff’s Bevrachtingskantoor in Amsterdam. Since then Radio Holland performed more than 150 LRIT Conformance Tests. A Testing ASP (Application Service Provider) is appointed by the national flag Administration, and is licensed to issue the official LRIT documents, after performing a successful LRIT test.
First Ship with LRIT Compliance
International Tanker Management (ITM) managed and Marshall Islands flagged tankers MT PORT LOUIS, MT ALTIUS and the bulker MV PORT MELBOURNE reported that they have became the first vessels to be officially issued with LRIT Conformance Test Report Certification following the successful shipborne equipment conformance testing of the vessels’ Inmarsat C equipment. The event marks a milestone in the development of LRIT. ITM has been participating with the on the development of LRIT and in particular with the development of the LRIT shipborne equipment testing. The completion of the first LRIT conformance tests show the high quality and innovative operational standards of the ITM fleet.
BlueTraker LRIT on Iridium Satellite Network
Iridium Satellite announced that it has certified the EMA Group's BlueTraker(R) Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) ship terminal to provide LRIT services over the Iridium satellite network. EMA is an Iridium Value-Added Reseller and Value-Added Manufacturer. The Iridium certification parallels the flag state approvals currently underway, ensuring that the EMA BlueTraker system adheres to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution MSC.263(84), which establishes performance standards for LRIT shipboard systems. USCG Approves CLS Thorium Terminal for LRIT
Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS) and Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) announced that the U.S. Coast Guard has type-approved the CLS Thorium terminal for Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT). The type approval clears the way for CLS America, a subsidiary of CLS, to equip ships sailing under the U.S. flag to comply with the international LRIT carriage requirements. Iran-Venezuela Oil Tanker Deal Hit by Sanctions Snags
An agreement to build oil tankers in Iran for Venezuela has been left in limbo years after it was announced as Western sanctions plus disagreements over payments and delivery terms took their toll, sources familiar with the matter say. The deal was heralded in 2006 with much fanfare by Tehran and the socialist government of then-president Hugo Chavez to build four oil tankers in Iran on behalf of Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA as part of a wider global order for 42 ships. According to sources and backed up by shipping data, the Iranian order was never completed. A former adviser to PDVSA's maritime subsidiary involved in the deal said the imposition of tougher sanctions in 2012…
Polar Star returns to Seattle
The Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star will be returning to Seattle Tuesday afternoon. The 399-ft., Seattle-based cutter is returning after a five-month deployment where the icebreaker participated in Operation Deep Freeze 2004. Operation Deep Freeze supports the U.S. Antarctic Program and the National Science Foundation by transporting scientists and breaking through ice in order to re-supply the world’s southern-most science stations. As a result of the Polar Star’s efforts, more than 8 million gallons of fuel and 11 million pounds of cargo were safely delivered to the McMurdo Research Station and South Pole Station, which depend on these supplies to operate.
USCG Assists Resupply of McMurdo, Antarctica
U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star successfully completed its breakout of McMurdo Science Station in Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze Wednesday. The cutter assisted by breaking a navigable shipping lane through 12 miles of ice in McMurdo Sound, encountering ice up to 10 feet in thickness. The shipping channel through the ice created by Polar Star was used by the tanker ship Maersk Peary to deliver approximately three and a half million U.S. gallons of fuel to McMurdo residents, allowing the station to remain manned and ready during the freezing winter months.
Coast Guard Icebreaker returns from Operation Deep Freeze
The Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star is scheduled to return to their homeport of Coast Guard Base Seattle at 10 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2014, following a 108-day deployment of Operation Deep Freeze 2014. Polar Star departed Seattle Dec. 3rd, 2013, and made port calls in Honolulu, Sydney, Australia, McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and Tahiti, French Polynesia. Having completed a reactivation that began four years ago, this deployment marks the first time in six years that a U.S. icebreaker has supported Operation Deep Freeze, the U.S. Antarctic Program’s resupply efforts of McMurdo Station, Antarctica. In January, Polar Star departed Sydney to assist in the rescue effort of two ships, the Russian vessel Akademik Shokalsiky and the Chinese vessel Xue Long.
