Coast Guard sets Port Condition WHISKEY

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port set port condition Whiskey for Hawaii County, Tuesday afternoon.Commercial ports in Hawaii County are Hilo Harbor and Kawaihae Harbor of the Big Island.During Port heavy weather condition WHISKEY, gale force winds 39 mph are predicted to arrive within 72 hours. Both ports currently remain open to all commercial and recreational traffic.The public is reminded of these important safety messages:When hurricane or tropical storm force winds are present stay off the water. The Coast Guard’s search and rescue capabilities degrade as storm conditions strengthen.

U.S. East Coast Ports Await Yet Another Storm

Hurricane Michael, now a Category 4 storm, will be the second hurricane in two months to significantly affect ports on the U.S. eastern seaboard. Eastern North Carolina in particular is only now recovering from Florence.The U.S. Coast Guard has set conditions X-Ray for ports in Georgia and South Carolina in preparation for Hurricane Michael. The storm is now expected to make landfall by Wednesday afternoon. While gale force winds are expected within the next 48 hours, these ports can remain open to commercial traffic.

Hurricane Michael Bears Down on Florida

Hurricane Michael is expected to strengthen today in the Gulf of Mexico, with the Florida panhandle directly in its dangerous path.Thousands of local residents in Wakulla, Gulf and Bay counties have been ordered to leave. Forecasters now say that Michael could be a Category 3 storm when it makes landfall on Wednesday. That prediction, if true, would make the storm the strongest to hit this area in at least a decade.As of 3 AM CDT on Tuesday, Michael was a Category 1 storm, with sustained winds of up to 90 miles per hour. It was gaining strength following a path that took it along Cuba's western tip, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

Hurricane Florence Barrels in on US East Coast

Hurricane Condition Whiskey for Port of Delaware Bay

The Captain of the Port (COTP), Delaware Bay, has set a modified Port Condition WHISKEY due to the anticipated arrival of a severe winter storm that will impact the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware area in the next 72 hours. The COTP has determined the ports of Philadelphia, Camden, and Wilmington and surrounding areas will likely experience high winds, increased seas, and excessive tide variations. Members of the port community should take adequate precautions and review the Severe Weather Contingency Plan. * Vessels must have effective mooring and anchorage arrangements for anticipated storm surge and winds; vessel agents are asked to notify vessel masters of this requirement. * Facilities must minimize debris that could become missile hazards.

CG Sets Port Condition Whiskey in Preparation for Hurricane Joaquin

The Coast Guard set Port Condition Whiskey Wednesday for all navigable waters in the North Carolina Captain of the Port Zone in preparation for the anticipated weather impact of Hurricane Joaquin. Gale-force winds of 39 mph are predicted to reach Frying Pan Shoals Lighted Buoy 16 (LLNR 8355) within 72 hours, and pleasure craft are advised to seek safe harbor. To enter, transit or remain within this Captain of the Port Zone, vessels must comply with the following requirements. All self-propelled, oceangoing vessels more than 500 tons, all oceangoing barges and their supporting tugs, and all tank barges more than 200 tons desiring to remain in port must arrange safe mooring and shall complete and submit in writing…

USCG Sets Port Status Whiskey for Tropical Storm Arthur

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Sector North Carolina port Captain has set the Port Condition Whiskey for all navigable waterways in North Carolina in preparation for the anticipated weather impact of tropical storm Arthur. Port Status Whiskey is normally set when gale force winds from a hurricane force storm are expected to arrive at the port within 72 hours. The USCG expects winds between 39 and 54 mph to reach Frying Pan Shoals Lighted Buoy 16 within 72 hours, and boaters are advised to seek safe harbor. All vessels are advised to use caution when transiting the area.

Coast Guard Issues Marine Safety Bulletin

The US Coast Guard issued a Marine Safety Bulletin stating that Port Condition Whiskey has been set for the New Orleans COTP Zone in anticipation of the impacts of Hurricane Ike. All mariners in the projected path of this large weather system should exercise extreme caution. Source:  HK Law
