Boskalis Consortium to Develop French Port
A consortium led by Boskalis Nederland and Bouygues Travaux Publics has won a contract from the Occitanie/Pyrenees-Mediterranee region of France for the expansion of Port-La-Nouvelle in the south west of the country that will lead to offshore wind development.The expansion will enable the port to accommodate the construction and assembly of pilot floating wind farms planned off the coast of Occitanie, Bouygues Travaux Publics said.The total value of the project amounts to EUR 199 million, for an overall project cost of EUR 237 million, forming part of the Region’s programs for construction and coastline development.When completed, the port of Port-La-Nouvelle will provide a draft of 14.5 meters…
Europe Okays French Port Extension
The European Commission has cleared a French extension project for the Mediterranean port of Port-La-Nouvelle.The project involves the construction of dikes and a platform for the handling of heavy parcels, jointly financed by the Occitanie region, the department of Aude and the agglomeration of Greater Narbonne.The Commission has concluded that the financing of the dikes, amounting to approximately EUR158 million, does not constitute state aid because this infrastructure will not only benefit the economic activities of the port but will protect the entire coastline against hazards climate and tides. Moore Director Declines Permanent Position at Port of L.A.
Interim Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gary Lee Moore announced today that he will not apply for the permanent position. After an executive director is selected and in place, Moore will return to his duties as Los Angeles City Engineer. “I’m grateful for Gary’s leadership, particularly for putting the TraPac container terminal expansion project back on track,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “It’s been a privilege to lead the Harbor Department since November,” Moore said.
Port of LA Embarks on Major Roadway Project
In the coming weeks, the Port of Los Angeles will start construction on two major roadway projects that will improve the Harbor I-110 Freeway and nearby surface streets in San Pedro and Wilmington. The work, due to begin in February and extend through fall 2016, will make the Harbor Area safer and easier to navigate for all motorists. “These are significant public works projects that will improve the flow of traffic for thousands of commuters and truck drivers who use these roadways every day,” said Gary Lee Moore, Interim Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles. The Port is investing $46.6 million to widen the westbound transition from the SR-47 to the northbound I-110 and reconfigure the I-110/C Street interchange.

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been awarded the contract for the supply of multiple Kalmar SmartPort solution products to TecPlata S.A, a fully-owned ICTSI company. US Port's Master Plan Ready for Public Comment
The Port of Los Angeles has released a Draft Port Master Plan for public review and input through April 8, 2013. The Port Master Plan serves as a long-range plan to establish policies and guidelines for future development within the coastal zone boundary of the Port of Los Angeles. The Draft Port Master Plan combines the original 1980 Port Master Plan and its subsequent amendments into an updated and more concise document that reflects recent land use planning and projects, replaces outdated language, and provides an easy to understand, specific land use plan.
Port of LA, USACE Address Container Terminal Expansion
The Port of Los Angeles and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Report (EIS/EIR) for the Berths 302-306 APL Container Terminal Project that involves the improvement and expansion of the existing 291-acre terminal by 56 acres. APL operates the second largest container terminal at the Port of Los Angeles. The proposed project calls for the development of 1250 feet of new wharf and 41 acres of backland with planned state-of-the-art infrastructure, including 12 new cranes and Alternative Maritime Power™ (AMP™) facilities. The existing 41-acre adjacent fill was constructed from dredged harbor materials as part of the Main Channel Deepening project.
