LNG Bunkering: First Italian Truck- to-Ship Operation

The Port of Civitavecchia has become the first port to perform Truck to Ship bunkering of LNG to a seagoing vessel within an Italian coastal port or any port in Italy and this part of the Mediterranean, say LNGEurope. The tugboat Bokn owned by Buksér og Berging AS, was bunkered by LNGEurope at the Port of Civitavecchia (Rome) recently for the Italian sector of her voyage from the Turkish shipbuilder towards final destination, Karsto in Norway. On arrival she will begin a long-term charter to Statoil. To fuel up on LNG for the delivery voyage, the new tug will also be calling at the ports of Cartagena, Vigo and Zeebrugge. The LNG fuelling operation was executed by one of LNGEurope’s trailers. The trailer is positioned alongside the ship and connected to the ship’s fuel tank.
