Elektron Mobilized at Delfzijl

MV Elektron, a cable laying vessel available for use in the offshore wind industry, has arrived for demobilization at the port of Delfzijl under agency of Royal Wagenborg.Netherlands-based Royal Wagenborg said in a press release that the demobilization of this offshore ship is carried out at the repair quay side, at the dock location of shipyard Niestern Sander.The job is done by Niestern Sander in 2 shifts 24 hours a day, said the ocean transport solutions provider.The vessel, measuring 87.35 m in length, was mobilized at the beginning of June to start work for NKT on the Nordlink KPG22 project.For this mobilization, Niestern Sander has manufactured large platforms…

Groningen Seaports, Vopak Push Solar Power

The Dutch tank storage company Royal Vopak,  Groningen Seaports and Whitehelm Capital announce their intention to jointly invest in a 27 MW solar park. The solar photovoltaic field will be one of the largest currently in the Netherlands.The new solar park will be situated on 19 ha of land adjacent to Vopak Terminal Eemshaven, land which is currently already leased by the terminal. The produced green electricity will be made available for local use in Groningen and Vopak terminals.Based on the available energy infrastructure, Groningen and especially Eemshaven are considered strategic locations for production and storage of renewable energy in the Netherlands.

Petromarine Calls Upon Niestern Sander

French shipowner Petromarine has ordered Niestern Sander to construct a third tanker wider than 52 ft. (16 m). Built under hull no. 813, the 12,200-dwt vessel is the largest ever built in the Province of Groningen. Constructed under Bureau Veritas guidelines, the double hull tanker is equipped with an electrical driven emergency propulsion plant, and upon its completion at the yard's floating dock in the port of Delfzijl, is scheduled for an October 2001 delivery. The vessel's design is in collaboration with Conoship International of Groningen, Netherlands.
