The Spanish coastguard rescued two Nigerian migrants who stowed away on the rudder of a ship that arrived in the Canary Islands from Togo, a coastguard spokesperson and the police said on Tuesday.After being rescued on Monday night in the port of Las Palmas, the migrants were taken to a hospital.

The repatriation of the final 15 passengers from the Greg Mortimer cruise ship, stranded in Uruguayan waters since March 27 due to an outbreak of the coronavirus on board, will take place on Wednesday afternoon, the government said.A medical plane will take the current 14 occupants of the ship, and another passenger to be discharged from a clinic in capital city Montevideo to Miami, where they will get on connecting flights to their homes in the United States, Britain, Sweden, France, Holland, Canada and Switzerland.The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry said the ship will dock at Montevideo.

Kalmar, the provider of the cargo handling solutions and services to ports, has concluded an agreement to supply comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance services to Operaciones Portuarias Canarias S.A. Although I did start my professional career dealing with other type of businesses within my family, the core root of our family wealth has always been in the maritime industry.

Rolls-Royce announced it has signed a cooperation agreement with the Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas, Canary Islands that it said will enhance the service capabilities of both parties to meet growing demand from rig and drillship owners. A new 1,980m2 service facility will be built by Astican for Rolls-Royce to service and overhaul the complete Rolls-Royce product range, including the simultaneous reconditioning of up to six Azimuth thruster units. Coupled with Astican’s ship repair facilities, the new custom-built service center at the crossroads of the Atlantic, linking Europe, Africa and the Americas, will allow Rolls-Royce to better serve operators with ongoing exploration, production development operations in these regions, the company said.

Fairmount Marine said its tug, Fairmount Glacier, has safely delivered bulk carrier Cassiopeia Star in the port of Las Palmas, Canary Islands. The bulker was picked up during bad weather on the mid-Atlantic where she was drifting with main engine problems. Fairmount Marine, a marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation, was contracted by Tsavliris Salvage to assist. After steaming at full speed for 1,720 miles the Fairmount Glacier met with the still drifting Cassiopeia Star.

Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Summit has delivered rig Ocean Valiant safely in the port of Las Palmas, Canary Islands. Fairmount Summit has towed the rig from offshore Cameroon over a distance of almost 3,000 miles. The Ocean Valiant is a semi-submersible drilling rig owned by Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc., headquartered in Houston, U.S. The 1988 build rig is 122 meters long, 71 meters wide and 37 meters high, is capable to drill up to 10,000 meters deep and can accommodate 140 persons.
