Croatia Gives State Guarantee to Keep Shipyard Afloat

Croatia moves to Boost Troubled Rijeka yard

The Croatian government said on Thursday it would help a troubled shipyard owned by Uljanik , the country's largest shipbuilder, resume production.The government, which owns a 25% stake in Uljanik, said in March that it would not back a proposed restructuring plan for the group due to the financial burden it would place on the state.However, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Thursday that the government was willing to support 3.Maj, which is located in the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka and is one of the group's two shipyards, because it did not have as big a debt burden."Unlike Uljanik, the 3.Maj is not an overly indebted company and there is an interest in the construction of new ships…

ICTSI Intros New Terminal in Croatia

The Croatian subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Rijeka, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) is set to realize a comprehensive expansion plan in the period up to mid-2020.AGCT, in cooperation with the Rijeka Port Authority,  has drawn up plans for a two-phase dredging scheme with the first phase fully-approved, entailing the dredging of 130 meters of quay over its Berths 1 and 2. This will facilitate the berthing of vessels with a length overall (LOA) of up to 400 meters. Largest Vessel to Call ICTSI, Rijeka

Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) container handling facility in the Port of Rijeka, Croatia, recently serviced the largest vessel to call in the country, the 10,000 TEU-capacity Gerda Maersk. The 367-meter Gerda Maersk, is part of the 2M Alliance by two of the world’s megaliners Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Co. The alliance, which connects Rijeka and the Far East, deploys 15 vessels with average capacities of 9,600 to 11,300 TEUs. The service starts from the US West Coast and passes through the Pacific, making regular port calls in Busan, South Korea and key ports in the Far East…

Ocean 3 launched at the AGCT, Rijeka

China Shipping Container Line’s (CSCL) Xin Qin Huang Dao recently made its maiden call at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) container handling facility in the Port of Rijeka, Croatia, which marked the launch of a service of the Ocean 3 alliance, connecting Rijeka and other European ports to Asia and North America. The vessel arrived at the AGCT last 18 February and is deployed to Ocean 3’s Phoex / AMX8 / AMC4 weekly service. In September 2014, shipping lines CMA CGM, CSCL and United Arab Shipping Co. formed the Ocean 3 alliance to optimize and consolidate several of their services routes between Asia and Europe, and Asia and North America.

AGCT Opens COSCO Service in Rijeka

Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) container handling facility in the Port of Rijeka, Croatia, recently launched China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co.’s (COSCO), Adriatic–Greece–Turkey service (AGT) when COSCO selected AGCT as the first port of call of the service. The AGCT launch was marked by the maiden call of Contship Eco last 24 February. The service, which directly connects Rijeka with Greek and Turkish ports, also links the Northern Adriatic ports with Piraeus, Greece. Viktor Lenac Books Strong Business

In September the shipyard completed repairs on nine vessels with various descriptions on the jobs performed. Standard shiprepair jobs were performed on the 8,945 dwt reefer vessel Hudson Bay, owned by German company Thien & Heyenga, and the 5,782 dwt LPG vessel Gas Century, managed by Cyprus based Hanseatic Shipping. The 18,582 dwt product tanker Calitea, owned by CA LI SA, Italy underwent standard drydock works continuing the good cooperation between the shipyard and the owner (the vessel has been under repair and conversion several times in Viktor Lenac during the last few years).
