Dutch towage company and maritime services provider Multraship Towage & Salvage has carried out christening ceremonies at its home port of Terneuzen in the Netherlands for its two new Damen-built tugs – one of which is the first IMO Tier III-compliant tug in Europe.The vessels are a Reversed Stern Drive (RSD) Tug 2513 and an Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Tug 3212, which were officially named Multratug 6 and Multratug 29 respectively. At the  Europort exhibition in Rotterdam, Multraship and Damen signed a contract for the build and delivery of two Damen Stan Launch 804s. The new launches will be operated by Multraship subsidiaries Montis Mooring Boatservice BV and Verenigde Bootlieden BV. Verenigde Bootlieden BV and Montis Mooring Boatservice BV provide boatmen and other specialist marine services in the port of Terneuzen, the Netherlands. The new acquisitions will provide among others line handling services in the Terneuzen port area. The 8.62-meter  Stan Launch 804s are specially modified versions of the class.

Traffic for large ships heading towards the Belgian port of Antwerp was temporarily blocked on Friday after a giant container ship ran aground outside the Dutch port of Terneuzen downstream from the Belgian harbour, emergency services said. Emergeny services for the Dutch province Zeeland said on their website the MSC Rachelle had run on to a sandbank on its way to Antwerp, though they later said it had been refloated. High tide was due at 1700 GMT and six tugs had been involved in the effort to refloat the vessel…

LEADING towage and salvage specialist Multraship has salvaged the fishing trawler Nieuwpoort 28 (N28) which capsized off Dunkirk on March 1, using its recently upgraded floating sheerlegs Cormorant to successfully complete a challenging operation. The trawler capsized twenty miles off the French/Belgian coast. It was upside-down in the water and the French and Belgian Coastguards mobilised a Search & Rescue operation during which Navy divers searched the vessel but were unable to find any of the trawler’s three crew members – two brothers and their brother-in-law…

Salvage and towage company Multraship has taken delivery of its new multi-purpose Azimuth Stern Drive tug, Multratug 17, from the Vega Shipyard in Bandirma, Turkey. The vessel is 35.7 m loa, with a moulded beam of 11.50 m, and has a multi-role capability for harbor, escort and sea towage as well as full firefighting and salvage roles. It has FiFi 1 fire-fighting, salvage, escort towage and oil recovery notations, and is powered by two Caterpillar engines, delivering 70 tonnes bollard pull.

Multraship Towage & Salvage has acquired a majority share in VEBO BV, the holding company of Verenigde Bootlieden BV and Vebocab BV, the leading boatman/mooring service provider in the port of Terneuzen. The takeover will have no adverse consequences for the 38 employees of VEBO, which specialises in the mooring and unmooring of vessels and in the provision of helmsmen services and taxi and waterborne transportation services. Multraship, which specialises in towage & salvage services, sees the takeover as a logical addition to, and expansion of, its services to the maritime community in the Zeeland Seaports area and on the River Scheldt. For Verenigde Bootlieden, the takeover represents a guarantee of its long-term survival.
