Coral EnergICE Named in Finland
The first liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier to hold 1A Super ice class was named Coral EnergICE during a ceremony at the Port of Turku, Finland on January 25. The 18,000-cubic-meter capcity Coral EnergICE was constructed by German shipbuilder Neptun Werft for owner Anthony Veder, and will be operated by Skangas to transport LNG to the Skangas terminal in Pori and the joint venture Manga LNG terminal Tornio in Finland. The LNG carrier is the third Anthony Veder has delivered to Skangas in the past five years.
Four Baltic Sea Ports Pact for Onshore Power Supply
Four Baltic Sea ports, namely Estonia’s port of Tallinn, Swedish ports of Stockholm and Finland’s ports of Helsinki and Turku, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming for a common approach for a new onshore power supply for vessels. The aim of the cooperation is to actively contribute to reducing negative effects on the environment, according to the parties. "The passenger ferry quays in Helsinki, Stockholm, Tallinn and Turku are located close to the city centers," Ellen Kaasik, head of the Port of Tallinn's Department of Quality and Environmental Management stated in a press release. "The combination of noise, vibration and other ship emissions (CO2, NOx, PM) can have a negative effect on existing and future living and working areas.
Finnlines Consolidates, Announces Appointments
Finnlines' subsidiaries, Finncarriers Oy Ab, a company specialized at sea transportation and FG-Shipping Oy Ab, a company specialized at ship management and technology, were recently merged to the mother company Finnlines Plc. In addition, port operation companies of Finnlines, Finnsteve Oy Ab, which is operating the ports of Helsinki and Oy A.E.Erickson Ab, which is operating the port of Turku, were also merged into one company called Finnsteve Oy Ab. Finnlines' German subsidiary Poseidon Schiffahrt AG has changed the company name to Finnlines Deutschland AG. The new company structure is in force since 1 January 2001. Shipping and Sea Transport Division includes Finnlines Cargo Services and Finnlink Services. Asser Ahleskog is in charge of Finnlines Cargo Services.
