Jensen Maritime Design New City of Portland Fireboats
Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, recently completed concept designs and performance specifications for two new fireboats that will join the city of Portland’s fire and rescue (PF&R) fleet in the first half of 2014. The new, fast-response fireboats will provide emergency response on long stretches of both the Columbia and Willamette rivers, and are expected to have a 20-year service life, which far exceeds the typical five to seven years found on similar vessels in this class.
Theriault & Son Custom Fire/Rescue Vessel
When Portland, Maine needed an aluminum fire/rescue boat, the city brought on builder A.F. Theriault & Son. The resulting 65-ft City of Portland features a medical bay identical to land-based ambulances, multiple water cannons and a complete Delta T ventilation system. "We offer Delta T Systems as optional equipment, but they have such a great reputation that many architects will incorporate them into their designs," said Theriault & Son VP of production Graham Oakley. Tug Everlast anchors in Portland Harbor
The Canadian tug Everlast was anchored in Portland Harbor, Maine, for inspection on Friday after a pump room on the barge it was pushing caught fire Thursday night. While anchored, the 400-foot double-hulled barge was evaluated by a Coast Guard marine inspector and Portland Fire Department officials to determine the extent of the damage caused by the fire. Steps were taken to move the tug and barge to the Portland Ocean Gateway terminal for additional repairs to the installed firefighting systems late Friday evening. “The Portland Fire Department was outstanding in accurately assessing the potential for the fire reflashing and helping to craft an appropriate response strategy to this casualty,” said Capt. Jim Rendon, commander of CG Sector Northern New England.
