Kawasaki Wins AiP for LNG Floating Power Plant

Japanese manufacturer of transportation equipment and machinery announced that it has obtained Approval in Principle (AiP) for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) floating power plant equipped with its own gas turbine (combined cycle power plant (CCPP) model).This approval was obtained from world-leading ship classification organization DNV GL based on its latest “Gas Power Plant” rules, which were introduced in 2018.An LNG floating power plant is an integrated system in which LNG fuel tanks, LNG regasification unit, power generation equipment and switchyard are all outfitted on the hull. Kirby Corporation (“Kirby”) (NYSE: KEX) has announced net earnings attributable to Kirby for the second quarter ended June 30, 2019 of $47.3 million, or $0.79 per share, compared with earnings of $28.6 million, or $0.48 per share, for the 2018 second quarter. Excluding a one-time charge related to the retirement of Kirby’s Executive Chairman, 2018 second quarter net earnings attributable to Kirby were $46.8 million, or $0.78 per share. Kirby Corporation announced net earnings attributable to Kirby for the first quarter ended March 31, 2019 of $44.3 million, or $0.74 per share, compared with earnings of $32.5 million, or $0.54 per share, for the 2018 first quarter. IGCC System for Tokyo Electric Power

A consortium led by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order from Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) for design work for a large-scale integrated coal gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) system to be adopted for a project to create the world's most advanced coal-fired thermal power plants. The project plans call for the construction of two 500-megawatt (MW) class IGCC plants in Fukushima Prefecture to help promote local industrial recovery. Following receipt of the order, the consortium, which also includes Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mechatronics Systems, Ltd. (MHI-MS), has already begun the newly contracted design work.

WPP Rebuild Program Gives Engines New Life

Worldwide Power Products (WPP), a power-generation equipment provider to industrial and petroleum clients worldwide, today announced it is rebuilding Tier I engines to meet Tier II hazardous emissions standards, making them compliant with leading offshore certifications. WPP has already closed deals in Dubai and Singapore for these newly rebuilt engines and is offering them for sale globally. “ABS, one of the top offshore certification companies, will no longer certify new or rebuilt offshore rigs or vessels operating with Tier I engines,” said WPP VP of Sales and Engineering Dave Vennie.

Rolls-Royce to Supply Engines for Huge UAE Offshore Project

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a strategic contract to supply Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) with power generation equipment and related services to help boost oil and gas processing at the Satah Al- Razboot (SARB) offshore project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The contract was awarded by the Korean engineering, procurement and construction firm Hyundai Engineering and Construction (HDEC) and is the first Trent 60 gas turbine sale to a Korean EPC. The SARB project, say Rolls-Royce, will play a key role in boosting domestic oil and gas production in the UAE.

Charleston Receives First Heavy Lifts for Nuclear Plant

The high, wide and heavy cargo arrived at Charleston's Columbus Street Terminal, and is being shipped to the South Carolina Electric & Gas Company's (SCE&G) nuclear plant expansion 30 miles from the state capital of Columbia. Crews offloaded a large amount of specialty cargo from the 10,500-ton HR Recommendation, operated by BBC Chartering. From there, the cargo moved by rail and truck to SCE&G's project site. A US$23-million improvement project completed last year at the 135-acre Columbus Street Terminal to enhance the facility's mix of on-dock rail, storage and heavylift capabilities. The terminal handles a variety of non-container freight, including vehicles, other rolling stock, breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo, including power generation equipment.

Rickmers-Linie Upgrades Indian Service with New Vessels

Rickmers-Linie, the German liner specialist for project cargoes and heavy lifts, is upgrading its Indian service with the addition of new vessels. It will also provide a direct service both eastbound and westbound between Europe and India although calls in Pakistan and the Middle East will be possible on an inducement basis. Hamburg Leads Foreign Trade with India

A joint delegation consisting of representatives of Hamburg’s port-related industries and the marketing organization for Finland’s transport and logistics sector, Straight-way Finland, visited the Indian port city of Mumbai this week. At a workshop organized by Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM) and the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK), Axel Mattern from HHM, Thomas Lütje and Bernt Wegener from HHLA Container Terminals GmbH, and Werner Schulze-Freyberg from Polzug Intermodal GmbH highlighted the strong trade relations between Hamburg and the Indian sub-continent in their presentations and then detailed the range of services available for the container-handling and intermodal transport segments.

Dresser-Rand To Supply Power Generation Equipment For BP

Dresser-Rand has received orders to supply power generation equipment to the BP Deep Water Development Program in the Gulf of Mexico. The equipment is being supplied by Dresser-Rand's Norwegian operations in Kongsberg and Drammen is comprised of Dresser-Rand DR61G turbo generator sets powered by GE LM2500 gas turbines, which drive Siemens electrical generators. BP has placed security of supply orders at approximately $120 million for a total of 14 units. The initial production release is for three units scheduled for delivery mid-2002, with the balance of releases projected over the next two to three years.
