Norfolk Southern Invests in Automation

American transportation company Norfolk Southern has signed a deal with Kalmar, part of Cargotec, for supply of four Kalmar SmartPower rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) equipped with a suite of process automation solutions.According to a press release, the order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 Q4 order intake with delivery scheduled to be completed by the end of Q4 2019. Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates approximately 19,500 route miles in 23 states, serves every major container ports in the eastern United States and provides efficient connections to other rail carriers. In addition to containers, the company is also a major transporter of coal, automotive products and industrial goods.

TOS, AutoGates Boost Liverpool Port Throughput

Peel Ports, owners and operators of the Port of Liverpool, has achieved a major milestone in its multi-million investment programme to transform the port into Europe’s first semi-automated container terminal. The Navis N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS) and AutoGates are now live and fully operational following the construction and commissioning programmes. Kalmar SmartStack goes live

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has implemented the Kalmar SmartStack solution at Durban Container Terminal (DCT) in South Africa for real-time container inventory reporting and management. This is the first terminal to implement Kalmar SmartStack using the narrowband communication network involving re-engineering from the standard WiFi deployment. DCT is currently running 11 Kalmar straddle carriers with SmartStack and further eight are to be phased in over the coming weeks. In addition, 11 Terex straddle carriers will be phased into the SmartStack solution and are currently undergoing equipment testing trials by the customer. The final machines to integrate with the solution in this project are two Kalmar empty container handlers.

Kalmar SmartLane Automated Gate System for Liverpool Port

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, will deliver Kalmar SmartLane automated gate system to Port of Liverpool, operated by Peel Ports Group. The new system will reduce waiting times and administration for hauliers, resulting in faster turnaround. The implementation is scheduled to be completed by early 2015. Investment in Kalmar SmartLane automated gate system is part of Peelport's £5.5m package of improvements to port infrastructure. Navis N4, Kalmar SmartPort Chosen for Paraguayan Ports

Kalmar and Navis, both part of Cargotec, revealed at 'Intermodal South America' that Puerto Caacupe-mi in Paraguay has chosen Navis’ N4 terminal operating system (TOS) and Kalmar’s SmartPort process automation solutions for its Asuncion and Pilar facilities. Cargotec explain that Puerto Caacupe-mi selected N4 due to the TOS’ flexibility to adapt to individual customer needs, and at the same time, achieve greater agility, efficiency and control in handling large cargo volumes.

Kalmar SmartPort Equipment Ordered for New Argentine Terminal

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been awarded the contract for the supply of multiple Kalmar SmartPort solution products to TecPlata S.A, a fully-owned ICTSI company. The greenfield terminal located in Port La Plata, Argentina, will feature in the first phase Kalmar SmartLift and SmartStack on its 18 Kalmar terminal tractors, nine ZPMC RTGs, two Kalmar reachstackers and three Kalmar front-end loaders.
