Navico Invests to Boost Manufacturing Capabilities

Navico Group, a division of Brunswick Corporation, announced a multimillion-dollar investment in its Lowell, Mich. facility to create two Centers of Excellence in metal fabrication and electrification. The investment is intended to increase quality, capacity and efficiency, as well as improve product manufacturing capabilities, the company said.“Navico Group is committed to being a leader in metal fabrication and electrification for the industries we serve, and this investment is a testament to that” said Brett Dibkey, Navico Group President.

DNV GL Invests in Public Blockchain Service Provider VeChain

DNV GL, the risk management and quality assurance company, has bought a stake in leading public blockchain service provider VeChain as it looks to use the technology to develop new digital assurance solutions. The acquisition builds on the strong relationship between the two firms and follows the recent launch of My Story, a blockchain enabled digital assurance product which gives a new level of insight into supplier and product information. DNV GL took the step to buy the minority stake as it recognises the growth potential in both the VeChain and the technology it is advancing. DNV GL Boosts Investment in 3D Printing

Textron Choose IBASEt Manufacturing Software

iBASEt, developers of Solumina’s Product Lifecycle Execution (PLE) software suite say that Textron Systems operating unit Textron Marine & Land Systems, has selected Solumina’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to streamline manufacturing operations for its work on the U.S. Navy’s Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) air cushion vehicle. IBASEt inform that the  SSC is the evolutionary replacement for the Navy’s existing fleet of Landing Craft, Air Cushioned (LCAC) vehicles, which are nearing the end of their service life. Aubin Expands Services in Middle East

Offshore chemical engineering specialist Aubin has grown its presence in the Middle East, projecting nearly £3million worth of sales in the region this year as well as the introduction of local manufacturing. The Aberdeenshire-based company specializes in chemical solutions for the oil and gas industry, including cement and stimulation additives. With the majority of its global sales going to the Middle East, Aubin recently formed a partnership with an Abu Dhabi-based company to facilitate regional manufacturing. Aubin has recently completed a contract worth more than £400,000 for the provision of cement additives to a global operator in Iraq, and the successful conclusion has secured an additional contract to supply £1.25 million by the end of the year.

FMC Technologies Signs $1.5 Billion Subsea Agreement With Petrobras

Houston - FMC Technologies Inc. announced that it has signed a four-year agreement with Petrobras, Brazil’s national oil company, for the supply of pre-salt subsea equipment. The total award would result in approximately $1.5 billion in revenue to FMC Technologies if all of the subsea equipment included in the agreement is ordered. The initial call-off has an approximate value of $900 million in revenue to FMC and includes 78 subsea trees. FMC’s total scope of supply could include the delivery of up to 130 subsea trees, subsea multiplex controls and related tools and equipment. The tree systems are for use in offshore Brazil in water depths up to 8,200 feet (2,500 meters).

Governor Announces First Innovation Partnership Zones

Governor Chris Gregoire announced the designation of 11 Innovation Partnership Zones in Washington, geographic areas that will promote and develop the state’s regional economies. Innovation Partnership Zones build on the success around the world of “research parks,” such as the Research Triangle in North Carolina and Torrey Pines in California and bring together research and higher education opportunities, innovation and economic activity to be a strong engine for regional economies. “Washington is home to some of the greatest innovations in the world and I am excited to support the continued success of our state’s world-class companies,” said Governor Gregoire.

China Maps out Goal for Shipbuilding

According to Xinhua, the latest official blueprint on the China's shipbuilding industry urges the country to crank up efforts over the next five to ten years in order to shoulder its way into the elite club of independent mainstream shipbuilders. Key development targets enshrined in the National Medium-and Long-Term Plan of the Shipbuilding Industry include: ships to reach international levels of technological sophistication; annual output to hit 17 million deadweight tons (dwt); annual production capacity of medium- and low-speed ship diesel engines to reach 4.5million kw and 1,100 units respectively in order to meet domestic demand; more than 60 percent of ship equipment to be produced locally.

Innova Receives Type Approval From ABS

Innova Electronics received Type Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). ABS Type Approval certifies that the product has been designed, constructed and is maintained in accordance with the rules and standards of the classification body. To obtain certification, Innova met ABS requirements in drawing assessment, prototype testing, assessment of the product manufacturing quality control and quality assurance arrangements, and routine surveillance of the manufacturing process.
