PONANT Taps VARD for Two Cruise Vessels

VARD has announced a contract to build 2 new-generation luxury expedition cruise vessels for PONANT.The new units, due for delivery both in 2022, will represent an evolution of the “PONANT EXPLORERS” class vessels. Ponant Orders Two Ships from Fincantieri

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to design and construct two new-generation luxury expedition cruise ships for French cruise operator Ponant.The MoA also envisages an option for one further sister-ship. The finalization of the contract is subject to the fulfillment of technical and financial conditions.In the past, Fincantieri has already built for Ponant 4 ships in Ancona, "Le Boréal", "L'Austral", "Le Soléal", and "Le Lyrial", delivered respectively in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2015.VARD, Fincantieri's Norwegian subsidiary, active in the design and shipbuilding of expedition cruise vessels, has built in 2018 and 2019 four units of the "Ponant Explorers" class and will deliver the last two of the series in 2020.

PPG Delivers Pipe Coatings in South Africa

Coatings specialist says it draws on local production network and highly experienced team to deliver high specification products for local utility project. PPG Protective and Marine Coatings announced completion of a major project for Africa Pipe Industries, supplying internal and external coatings on a 46km, 2.1m diameter pipeline installed for South African utility Rand Water. PPG supplied SIGMALINE 523 as an internal lining and SIGMALINE 855 as an external coating on the pipe installed at Sasolburg in the Free State region. Together, the coatings deliver high performance protection of both surfaces against corrosion and contamination of the pipeline content.

Liebherr’s 2013 Turnover Steady Despite Weak Economic Climate

The overall economic situation did not improve in 2013. According to current forecasts, the global economy will grow by just under 3% and global production probably by 3.1%. Fincantieri to Acquire the Manitowoc Marine Group

Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A., a leader in the commercial and naval shipbuilding industry, signed a definitive acquisition agreement to acquire the Manitowoc Marine Group (MMG), from its parent company, The Manitowoc Company, Inc. [NYSE: MTW]. Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT] has agreed to be a minority investor with Fincantieri in the proposed acquisition. The transaction, that is valued at approx. $120m (subject to certain closing adjustments), is an all-cash deal that is anticipated to close at the end of 2008. The Boards of Directors of Fincantieri and have approved the terms of the agreement. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including clearance from the antitrust authorities.
