MacGregor Gets Large Crane Order for Prysmian’s New Cable Layer

Prysmian Commissions Inter-Array Cable System at French Offshore Wind Farm

Prysmian Group has commissioned the inter-array cable system for the Fécamp offshore wind farm, located in the English Channel, offshore France.The Fécamp offshore wind farm is composed of 71 wind turbines with a total capacity of nearly 500MW.It will be able to generate clean electricity equivalent to the power needs of over 770,000 people.Prysmian had secured this project in 2020 with a contract awarded by EDF Renewables and its partners.Asso.subsea was contracted by Prysmian Group to execute the seabed preparation, installation and protection works for the cables.

Fincantieri Lands $250M Order from Prysmian for New Cable-Laying Vessel

Vard, a Norwegian subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has signed a contract for the design and construction of a cable-laying vessel for Prysmian Group valued at $250 million.This is the third cable-laying vessel Vard is building for Prysmian Group after vessels Monna Lisa, currently under construction, and Leonardo da Vinci, which was delivered in 2021.According to the companies, the new unit will consolidate the widest fleet in the industry.The cable-laying vessel will be an evolution of the Monna Lisa class.

Prysmian Installs Vineyard Wind 1 Cables

Italian power and telecom cable-making and installation services firm Prysmian Group said Monday it had completed the installation and HV testing activities at Vineyard Wind 1, the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the US. Located more than 15 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, Vineyard Wind will consist of an array of 62 wind turbines that will generate 800 MW of electricity and power over 400,000 homes. The first turbine was installed last week.As for the Prysmian scope, the project was awarded to Prysmian Group in May 2019 by Vineyard Wind, LLC.

Italian Cable Giant Ups Emission Reduction Targets for the Near Term

Italy's Prysmian has adopted a net zero carbon target by 2050 and slightly upped its emission reduction targets for the near term, the world's largest cable maker said on Wednesday.Prysmian - which supplies cables for industries including high voltage power transmission, offshore wind farms and telecoms - said in a statement it was committed to reducing all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the value chain by 2050.As part of this plan, the company will cut so-called Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2035…

Prysmian Selects Name for New Cable Laying Vessel

Italian power cable making and installation group Prysmian Group has chosen the name Monna Lisa for the new 171-meter cable-laying vessel that is currently under construction in Romania. Keel Laid for Prysmian's New Cable Layer

Vard's shipyard in Tulcea, Romania, on Wednesday held a keel laying ceremony for the Prysmian Group's newest cable laying vessel.The new 171-meter vessel, an identical sister ship to the state-of-the-art Leonardo da Vinci delivered in 2021, is scheduled to start commercial operation in early 2025.According to the Prysmian Group, both the new ship and the Leonardo da Vinci are the only installation vessels in the world with two rotating platforms of 7,000 and 10,000 tons, bringing the total capacity up to 14,000 tons to ensure the highest carousel capacity in the market.

Vard Wins Order to Build Cable Layer for Mystery Owner

Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri announced its Vard subsidiary has secured an order to design and build a new cable laying vessel for an unnamed "international shipping company".The ship will be built entirely by the Vard network, including the main systems and equipment, for scheduled delivery in 2024, Fincantieri said.At approximately 95 meters long, the vessel will have a total of 3,700 tons of cable installation equipment, 60 single cabins, DP2 positioning and seakeeping system.

U.S. President Biden Visits Prysmian's Subsea Cable Plant Site in Brayton Point, Mass.

Prysmian Group, the energy and telecom cable systems provider, on Wednesday welcomed U.S. President Joe Biden on a visit to the site of its new subsea power cables plant in Brayton Point, Massachusetts. Prysmian said it was set to transform the area, home to the former Somerset coal plant, into a high-tech hub for the energy transition process.The Brayton Point factory will manufacture subsea inter-array and export cables up to 275 kV AC or 525 kV DC, that are needed to connect offshore wind farms to mainland power grids.

Prysmian Wins $900M U.S. Offshore Wind Contracts

Italian subsea power cable maker Prysmian said Friday it had secured contracts worth $900 million in the U.S. offshore wind market.Both projects have been awarded by Vineyard Wind, a joint venture between Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP)-Worth around $300 million, the first cabling project will connect the 804 MW Park City offshore wind farm to the electricity grid in the state of Connecticut. Prysmian will deploy HVAC 275 kV three-core cables with XLPE insulation and single wire armoring. Cables will be produced in  Arco Felice, Italy, and Pikkala, Finland, and will be installed by the Leonardo da Vinci and Ulisse vessels.

Offshore installation contractor DEME Offshore has said it has secured a +$1.1 billion Balance of Plant (BoP) contract for the construction of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in a consortium with Prysmian.
