Papua LNG Carrier Delivered

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., today announced the delivery of the LNG carrier Papua by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (Hudong) on January 30. The Papua is the first in a series of four ships to be built by Hudong to provide LNG transportation for the PNG LNG project in Papua New Guinea and the Gorgon Jansz LNG project in Australia. MOL will operate the Papua under a long-term charter contract for the PNG LNG project operated by ExxonMobil. In January 2011, MOL assigned technical experts to the shipyard in China and created a shipbuilding supervision team made up of multinational staff, mostly Chinese and Japanese, to ensure the safe and high-quality construction of these LNG carriers.

MOL Table Top Drill for Bulk Carrier Collision

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Koichi Muto) today announced the completion of a table top drill based on the scenario of the MOL-owned and operated bulk carrier Mona Linden being involved in a collision that resulted in flooding and oil spill off Takamatsu, Inland sea, Japan. Commandos Repel Pirates from Iranian Supertanker

A statement issued by the public relations office of the Iranian Navy on April 9 said Iran's oceangoing supertanker, Voyager 1, came under attack by two pirate speedboats in the Indian Ocean off the Pakistani Southwest coasts but was saved by the timely action of the Iranian Navy commandos. The Iranian Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, when Somali raiders hijacked the Iranian-chartered cargo ship, MV Delight, off the coast of Yemen.   (Source: Fars News Agency)

MOL Drills on Emergency Response

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced that the company has completed a practice drill based on the scenario of its training ship Spirit of MOL being involved in a collision, fire, and oil spill incident just off Manila on February 18. Following is an outline of the drill, which involved about 60 participants from the Tokyo Head Office and MOL Group companies.
