Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has said it has delivered the MSC Seashore - the largest cruise ship to be built in Italy - to the cruise division of MSC GroupAlso, Fincantieri said Monday that MSC Seashore's sister ship MSC Seascape was under construction at the Monfalcone shipyard. Crowley Launches New Caribbean Shipping Service

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s liner services group announced today that it has launched a new feeder shipping service connecting San Juan, Puerto Rico; Rio Haina, Dominican Republic; and St. Croix and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI).With the new service, vessels depart Rio Haina on Sundays and arrive in San Juan on Tuesdays. After departure on Thursdays, cargo arrives in St. Thomas and St. Croix on Fridays, before the vessel moves to the Dominican Republic again for Sunday operations.

Dominican Republic Shuts Most Ports ahead of Hurricane Maria

Dominican Republic closed most of its ports ahead of Hurricane Maria, but the country's 34,000-barrel-per-day refinery was still running, the government said on Wednesday. Ports that suspended operations under the "red alert" declared for extreme weather conditions are La Romana, Samana, Arroyo Barril, Puerto Plata and Manzanillo, the Dominican Port Authority said in a statement. Signet Continues US Expansion

Signet continues Gulf of Mexico expansion and opens U.S. Signet Maritime Corporation informs it has completed Phase II of a $250 million capital expansion program with the acquisition and integration of the Harvey Gulf OTV fleet. The corporate strategy was to design and own vessels for multidisciplinary work, and diversify with the addition of the powerful offshore vessels, enabling Signet to broaden its services into new market segments, the company explained. Continuing this U.S. expansion, Signet has been awarded multi-vessel, long term charters by Trailer Bridge, Inc., an international freight service company, to perform weekly sailings from Jacksonville, Florida to San Juan, Puerto Rico and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

Carnival's $85M DR Facility to Begin Receiving Guests in October

Carnival Corporation today announced it will begin welcoming guests at its new $85 million Amber Cove port in the Dominican Republic beginning in October 2015. The facility, which represents the largest cruise industry investment ever made in the Dominican Republic, is expected to host more than 250,000 passengers in its first year of operation. The port facility will allow cruise ships to make stops along the Dominican Republic's Amber Coast, a northern coastline that hasn't been visited by cruise ships since the 1980s. Six of Carnival Corporation’s nine brands will call on Amber Cove.

Gregory Boyington captured after shooting down 28 aircraft. Boyington went on to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions. 1945 - Third Fleet carriers begin a two-day attack against Formosa, Taiwan, destroying 100 aircraft while losing only 22. Trailer Bridge Participates in Haiti Relief Effort

Trailer Bridge, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Market: TRBR), as part of the global relief effort for Haiti, contracted with the Military Sealift Command (MSC), the transportation provider for the United States Department of Defense, to provide one of its vessels in support of the U.S. government’s relief efforts in Haiti. The contract term is a minimum of 90 days and may be extended by MSC. Trailer Bridge has also partnered with one of its current shipping customers to provide free transportation and trailers for donated medical supplies to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, through the company’s operation in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. It is expected that the company’s donated trailers will remain in Haiti for local use or storage.

Trailer Bridge Expands Dominican Service

Trailer Bridge, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Market: TRBR) announced that it is expanding its Dominican Republic sailings from every two weeks to weekly. The company will provide this service utilizing its existing vessels that currently link the ports of Jacksonville, Fla., San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The new service is expected to commence in the last week of January 2010. The company originally commenced sailing to the Dominican Republic in August 2007, and has grown its customer base significantly over the past two years. The added frequency of sailings will provide additional options for the company’s existing shipping customers, while also making Trailer Bridge’s value proposition more attractive for potential new shippers.
