Alfa Laval Unveils Scrubber for Smaller Ships

(Image: Alfa Laval)

Alfa Laval introduced its PureSOx Express, a new version of its open-loop scrubber system delivered as a fully enclosed module and specifically designed for use on board smaller ships.Adapted for a simple and cost-efficient fit, the new system is engineered to reduce the investment cost, engineering time and physical work of installing a SOx scrubber on board vessels such as handymax bulkers or product tankers, where the cost of installing a scrubber for SOx compliance has sometimes…

Alfa Laval to Help Meet 0.5% Sulphur Fuel Cap

Alfa Laval is ready to help customers meet a global 0.5% sulphur fuel limit, no matter what the outcome of the MEPC70 meeting. The new Alfa Laval PureSOx Global is part of a major expansion of the PureSOx platform that will be released at SMM in Hamburg. Alfa Laval launched the original Alfa Laval PureSOx far in advance of today’s Emission Control Area (ECA) legislation. In the same way, the company is prepared to guide customers to 0.5% fuel sulphur compliance long before such a limit is implemented. Whether the decision is taken at October’s MEPC70 meeting or postponed until 2025, Alfa Laval has a solution in place. At this year’s SMM exhibition, a major expansion of the PureSOx platform will be presented at Alfa Laval’s stand (Hall A1, Stand A1.226).

Alfa Laval’s PureSOX Secures Repeat Order

As the marine industry struggles to prepare for 2015 and the first wave of sulphur emission limits, Alfa Laval technology is proving its worth. Following a similar order from DFDS earlier in 2013, a repeat order for PureSOX was placed by Dutch ship owner Spliethoff near the end of the year. The order confirms not only the commercial viability of the exhaust gas cleaning system, but also customer confidence in the system’s performance within Emission Control Areas (ECAs). Signed in November, the order from Spliethoff comprises PureSOX systems for five Con-Ro vessels.
