United Overseas Group to Acquire United Arab Chemical Carriers

Investment company United Overseas Group (UOG) is to acquire Dubai-based shipping company United Arab Chemical Carriers (UACC), the two companies said on Thursday.The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first quarter, they said in a statement, without disclosing the value.UOG is controlled by shipping industry veterans Peter Georgiopoulos and Leonidas Vrondissi.The sale of UACC, whose shareholders include the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, was held up in 2017 after a bitter diplomatic rift broke between the Gulf Arab states, sources familiar with matter had told Reuters.The countries agreed this week to end the dispute that had seen Saudi Arabia and some allies cut ties with Qatar over accusations it supports terrorism.

Qatar Invests in US Midstream Crude firm

Qatar's sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has purchased a significant stake in US-based Oryx Midstream Services, the largest privately held crude midstream provider in the Permian Basin.The stake was acquired from an affiliate of Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners. Oryx serves clients in the Permian Basin.Additionally, QIA has pledged to invest in the development of Oryx alongside Stonepeak. The total investment by QIA will be $550m.Since its founding in 2013, Oryx has established itself as one of the leading midstream operators in the Permian Basin in the Southwest US. The Oryx system transports crude oil to market hubs for ultimate delivery to the Gulf Coast.The system helps supply domestic refineries and the growing US export market.

Milaha Ups Stake in Nakilat

Glencore-QIA Halts Selling Rosneft Stake to China Energy Company

A consortium of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Anglo–Swiss mining company Glencore has scrapped a deal to sell 14.16% stake in Rosneft to CEFC China Energy Company. "Glencore refers to the announcement on 16 October 2017 concerning the Consortium’s agreement to sell to CEFC China Energy Company Limited a 14.16% stake in Rosneft. The Consortium has today sent a notice to CEFC to terminate that agreement in accordance with its terms and accordingly that proposed sale will no longer proceed," said a press release from the company. The members of the Consortium have agreed to dissolve the Consortium originally put in place in December 2016 for the purposes of acquiring a 19.5% stake in Rosneft and will take direct ownership of the underlying Rosneft shares.

Hapag-Lloyd Stakeholders Okay Capital Increase

Hapag-Lloyd shareholders approved all items on the agenda at today’s Annual General Meeting. In particular, the shareholders approved the creation of new authorised share capital. This is to be used for a planned capital increase of USD 400 million, which is scheduled to take place within six month after the closing of the merger with the Arabian liner shipping company UASC. The closing took place on May 24. Some of the anchor shareholders have committed to backstop the cash capital increase in the amount of USD 400 million. With the approval of the shareholders, all key preconditions have been met for the capital increase, which aims to strengthen the financial position of the company.

Hapag-Lloyd, UASC Complete Merger

Hapag-Lloyd and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) merged yesterday (May 25, 2017). The merger between the two liner shipping companies was completed in Hamburg. With 230 vessels and a shared fleet capacity of approximately 1.6 million TEU, Hapag-Lloyd is the fifth-largest liner shipping company in the world. Hapag-Lloyd will remain a publicly traded company registered in Germany with its headquarters in Hamburg. “This is an important strategic milestone and a big step forward for Hapag-Lloyd,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, Chief Executive Officer of Hapag-Lloyd. “We now not only have a very strong market position in Latin America and the Atlantic, but also in the Middle East, where we will become one of the leading carriers.

Hapag Lloyd Completes Merger with UASC

German shipping line Hapag Lloyd and Arab sector peer UASC have completed a delayed merger which creates the world's fifth-biggest shipping company. German shipping line Hapag Lloyd is close to completing a merger with United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) after UASC's shareholders agreed terms to repay outstanding debts, sources familiar with the talks told Reuters. The deal to create the world's fifth-biggest shipping company, valued at about 7 billion to 8 billion euros ($7.8-$8.9 billion), had been scheduled to complete at the end of last year. It would give Hapag Lloyd access to bigger ships on the major Asia to Europe trade route.

Empire State Stake, Melbourne Port Among Q3 Sovereign Fund Acquisitions

An Australian port and a stake in the Empire State Building's operator were among assets acquired by sovereign investors such as wealth funds and state pension funds in the third quarter of 2016, with deals totalling $21.2 billion. The combined value of deals was up 38 percent from the previous quarter, helped by a handful of jumbo-sized transactions in the infrastructure, energy and real estate segments, although the number of direct investments fell to 35 from 43 in the second quarter, according to data from Thomson Reuters.

Qatar Team to Weigh Petronet Stake Buy

According to BS Reporter, a delegation from Qatar is expected to visit India shortly to carry out due diligence for a possible investment in Petronet LNG. Qatar Investment Authority is likely to pick up a stake in Petronet by subscribing to a $100mn foreign currency convertible bond issue which is expected to be floated soon. Qatar had earlier been offered a 10 per cent stake in 2003 when the company offered shares to the public.
