Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels are essential tools in the search for oil  in deeper waters, further from shore-based facilities. Typically, the large FPSO is stationary with a number of wells feeding oil into its holds. The oil can then be pumped off to shuttle tankers that transport it to shore side tanks and refineries.FPSOs are big expensive pieces of equipment. Some of them are converted from ocean going oil tankers. Such is the case with the 333 by 60-meter, very large crude carrier, VLCC Ariake, which was purchased for conversion to an FPSO.

Tanzanian ferry operator Azam Marine has placed an order for a newbuild 45-meter catamaran passenger vessel. This ferry is the 10th vessel designed by Incat Crowther for the operator and will be the seventh vessel built for the operator by Richardson Devine Marine. The 500-passenger, 35 knot vessel features the operator’s trademark parallel boarding system, whereby five ramps per side load passenger and cargo in segregated flows. VIP and Royal Class passengers board directly into a discreet stair tower to the upper deck cabin, while economy passengers load separately aft and midships.

Azam Marine’s next newbuild, Kilimanjaro VII, will be the first passenger ferry powered by QSK95 propulsion engines from engine manufacturer Cummins. Two newbuild next generation CrewZer Class catamarans, SEACOR Puma and SEACOR Panther, have been delivered and have entered service for SEACOR Marine. The vessels were designed by Incat Crowther and built by Astillleros Armon in Spain and are unique in their capability to transfer personnel and equipment to offshore platforms at maximum speeds in excess of 40 knots. The design features 30 percent more deadweight capacity than its predecessor, while offering equivalent service speeds, Incat Crowther said.

Manufacturer of diesel engines and generator sets for the marine industry Cummins Inc. said it recently delivered the first four QSK95 engines for a marine application, with four additional units to be delivered in December. The engines were delivered to longtime Cummins partner SEACOR Marine Holdings Inc. for installation into a 57-meter catamaran crewboat designed by Incat Crowther. “We are extremely excited to be working with SEACOR Marine to launch the first QSK95 marine engines,” said Jim Schacht, Executive Director - Marine Market, Cummins Inc.

Cummins Inc. has announceda significant expansion of its Seymour campus that includes investing $219million in new construction and the addition of 290 jobs to support the company’s global high-horsepower engine business. Cummins Inc., a manufacturer of diesel engines for the commercial marine industry, will introduce the new QSK95 engine with 4000 hp (2983 kW) output as the most powerful high-speed diesel configured for marine propulsion and auxiliary generator sets.
