Elengy, a unit of the French energy company and LNG player Engie, said that the LNG receiving terminal in Montoir-de-Bretagne, managed by the company, has just performed a new generation LNG transshipment. South Korean Yards Eyed for $3.8 Bln LNG Shipbuilding Deal

A little-known investment company said it intends to order up to 20 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, probably from South Korean shipbuilders. The contracts would be worth as much as $3.8 billion, two people with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters. CBI Energy and Chemical, which is controlled by Australian and Canadian investors and has offices in Hong Kong, also said in a statement to Reuters that it would be seeking to buy floating LNG production and import facilities as part of an ambitious plan for Africa and Asia. The orders would be a major shot in the arm for South Korea's ailing shipbuilding industry, which has been hit by a collapse in new orders as global trade growth slows and after the slump in commodities prices in recent years.

LR, Penn Oak Energy Partner for LNG Retrofit Service

Lloyd’s Register North America, Inc. (LR) has teamed with Penn Oak Energy Corp to help companies raise capital and mitigate the technical risks associated with retrofitting ships fuelled by liquid natural gas (LNG), by providing a one-stop-shop solution to the industry. Ships that are fuelled by LNG can reduce operating costs while meeting stricter environmental regulations. LNG-fuelled ships have reduced emissions (nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide and particulate matter) as compared with heavy bunker oil and even low-sulphur marine diesel. Historically, the leading expense for ship operators is fuel and personnel. DNV GL Approves Kongsberg Engine Room Simulators

Kongsberg Digital has received DNV-GL statements of compliance for two of its newest Engine Room Simulator models designed to provide in-depth training on the K-Sim Engine simulator platform. Schulte Group Buys LNG Specialist PRONAV

Hamburg shipowning and management group Bernhard Schulte has signed a contract for the acquisition of 100% of the shares in the prestigious LNG ship manager PRONAV - subject to merger approval of the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt). The worldwide operating Schulte Group owns about 100 vessels (mainly container, tanker, bulker) and manages 600 vessels in all segments. PRONAV, based in Hamburg, is an internationally renowned ship manager specialized in large LNG tonnage.

Pertamina Delivers First LNG Cargo to Nusantara FSRU

Indonesia's government controlled PT Pertamina said that the first LNG cargo produced with the gas sourced at the field has been delivered to the Nusantara Regas’ Nusantara FSRU in the Jakarta Bay. The shipment is the first LNG cargo since the official PHM became the operator of the Mahakam block as of January 1, 2018. The LNG gas cargo of 2 million per million british thermal units (MMBTU) is delivered to Nusantara Regas One's floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) in Jakarta Bay. The LNG Carrier Aquarius ship carried the LNG gas cargo on Thursday, (4/1).

Port of Rotterdam: 2017 in Review

Over the past year, 29,646 seagoing vessels entered the port of Rotterdam, up more than 600 from 2016's 29,022. The number of incidents in the port fell from 159 to 129, and included one ‘serious accident’ involving an inland vessel that went adrift after hitting a groyne with its rudder. PSA Marine to Provide LNG FSRU Services in Bangladesh

Summit Power International (SPI), Singapore, announced that its subsidiary, Summit LNG Terminal has awarded a 15-year contract to PSA Marine Bangladesh, a subsidiary of PSA Marine. Under the contract, PSA Marine Bangladesh will provide berthing, mooring, pilot and personnel transfer services to LNG ships calling at Summit LNG FSRU terminal, with its three escort tugboats, one fast crew boat and one offshore supply vessel. The award of this contract marks a significant milestone for PSA Marine and commencement of a long-term partnership with SPI.

Emissions regulations from 2015 onwards are driving shipowners to a crossroads on fuel selection. Ahead of Europort 2013, Rotterdam, Dutch interests are making significant waves in tangible investments in LNG as a fuel option. While there is not consensus on the potential of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, the concept is gaining traction rapidly as using LNG reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from ships, as well as allowing operators to meet restrictions set in Sulfur Emission Control Areas (SECAs) today, which tighten from 2015 onwards.

A Joint Venture comprising The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line), and Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL), have taken delivery of a new build Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier MT “PRACHI” having a capacity of 173,000 m3, from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. South Korea on 30th November, 2016. Simultaneously, the vessel has been delivered to Petronet LNG Ltd, New Delhi India’s first importer of LNG on a 19 year charter.

Deltamarin Joins GTT for LNG-Powered Ship Designs

Finnish ship designer Deltamarin, part of AVIC Group, together with France's Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), an engineering company involved in membrane containment systems for transport and storage of LNG, has studied the use of membrane-type tanks on cargo and passenger vessels. For quite some time now, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has been an established fuel alternative for short sea shipping routes and also acts as a complementary fuel for longer routes. US Could Get First LNG Import from Russia despite Sanctions

A vessel that may be carrying liquefied natural gas from Russia's new Yamal LNG export terminal could be heading to the United States despite sanctions against the company that operates the Russian facility, according to a report by S&P Global Platts and Thomson Reuters shipping data. The tanker Chris. De Margerie picked up a cargo from Novatek PAO's Yamal facility, Russia's second LNG export terminal, on Dec. 9 and dropped it off at National Grid Plc's Isle of Grain LNG facility near London on Dec. 28, according to Thomson Reuters data.

Partner Andreas Silcher in Haynes and Boone’s London office represented TMS Cardiff Gas in its contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries of Korea (HHI) for the construction of one 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier with XDF propulsion, plus an option for a second vessel. In a press release, TMS Cardiff Gas called the order the first in the company’s X Carrier Series of orders, which expands the company’s fleet of managed vessels to 10. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2020, when she will enter into a seven-year time charter contract with TOTAL Gas & Power Chartering, Limited.

MOL Names Newbuilding LNG Carrier 'Energy Liberty'

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that on October 16, a naming ceremony for a newbuilding LNG carrier, jointly owned by MOL and Tokyo LNG Tanker, was held at the Tsu Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation. Among the crowd of well-wishers on hand for the ceremony were Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. President Michiaki Hirose, who gave the name Energy Liberty to the vessel, after which his wife cut the rope. The Energy Liberty will be the eighth LNG carrier owned and managed by Tokyo LNG Tanker. MOL will directly manage six of those vessels, including this newbuilding vessel.

China to top Japan as World's Biggest LNG Importer

Pollution fight drives surge in pipeline, LNG imports but Japan remains world's biggest importer of LNG. Beijing's crackdown on pollution has put China on track to overtake Japan this year as the world's biggest importer of natural gas, used to replace dirtier coal. China - already the biggest importer of oil and coal - is the world's third biggest user of natural gas behind the United States and Russia, but has to import around 40 percent of its total needs as domestic production can't keep up with demand.

Barging Right into LNG

A raft of new and innovative concepts for LNG barge missions hits the market, in North America and across the pond, as well. Industry gears up for the soon-to-come need for bunkering, infrastructure and LNG-related logistics. In 2014, innovation – as it turns out – means new ideas for the (previously) boring subject of marine barges. It also means LNG. Paired together, LNG and barges are giving naval architects, global classification societies and the operators of a new generation of LNG-powered tonnage something to think about.

Baltic Exchange to Develop LNG Freight Index

The Baltic Exchange is looking into launching a freight index for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is working with leading ship brokers to explore potential shipping routes that might be used as the LNG market grows, the company said on Thursday. Founded in 1744 as a forum for chartering vessels, the Baltic Exchange now produces benchmark indexes for global shipping rates, including ones used by the multi-billion dollar freight derivatives market. Singapore Exchange acquired the exchange in 2016 and since then the Baltic has been looking for new markets to develop.

President Moon was visiting Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering`s Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, to inspect the shipbuilding yard of an icebreaker arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. “The government will protect and bring up your hope,” he said. The icebreaker LNG carrier the president inspected is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that`s specialized in polar regions. It enables the ship to safely navigate cold weather in temperatures as low as minutes 52 C.

Adoption of LNG as Marine Fuel Significantly Accelerated in 2017

Titan LNG says that the stage has been set for a push in the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel beyond the tipping point. The order book for LNG-powered ships grew substantially, the LNG bunkering infrastructure is maturing and the pricing of LNG has become structurally competitive versus MGO. In 2017 around 11% of all new build contracts were LNG powered ships, a trend that we expect to continue during 2018. Qatargas Delivers First Q-Max Cargo to Thailand

Qatargas delivered the first Q-Max cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) under the long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) between Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Limited - 3 (Qatargas 3) and PTT Public Company Limited to the Kingdom of Thailand’s Map Ta Phut LNG receiving terminal. The cargo arrived on board the Q-Max LNG vessel, Bu Samra, on 5th August. This is the first Q-Max vessel to arrive at Map Ta Phut terminal since the startup of the terminal in 2011, when Qatargas delivered the first commissioning cargo to Thailand’s first LNG receiving terminal Map Ta Phut.

Dynagas Partners inks long-term deals for two LNG Vessels

Monaco – March 31, 2016 –Dynagas LNG Partners LP. * Gazprom Global LNG Limited has extended its current charter for the 2007-built LNG carrier Ob River, on the same terms, until May 1, 2018 (plus or minus 15 days). In addition, the Partnership has entered into a new long-term time charter agreement with Gazprom Marketing and Trading Pte. Ltd., an affiliate of Gazprom, for the Ob River, which is expected to commence immediately following the vessel’s redelivery from its current charter with Gazprom, for a period of 10 years (plus or minus 15 days).
