Radio Holland Renews Contracts with Algoma, CSL and ASC

Recently, Radio Holland Canada and Radio Holland USA celebrated the renewals of key airtime contracts on the Great Lakes with Algoma Central Corporation (ACC), The CSL Group (CSL) and American Steamship Corporation (ASC). Collectively, the three companies operate approximately 65 Lakers which include tankers, self-loading and conventional bulk carriers. The companies signed initial agreements with Radio Holland in 2007. The new agreements include increased bandwidth to meet the growing needs for the companies’ business operations and crew welfare.

Bridges Refit on Two Holland America Line Ships

Two major bridge refit contracts have been completed by Radio Holland USA on Holland America Line’s cruise ships Oosterdam and Prinsendam. The bridge refit on board the M/S Oosterdam was concluded in Palermo, Sicily in early May. Then just days later Radio Holland continued with a bridge upgrade project for the M/S Prinsendam, which took place in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Radio Holland Installs NavCom Equipment on US Training Ship

Radio Holland, part of the newly formed company RH Marine Group, has recently completed the installation of new radar and ECDIS equipment on the bridge of TS Golden Bear, the training ship of the California Maritime Academy. Radio Holland was awarded an initial contract from The United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) in March for replacing the gyroscopes and gyrocompass repeaters. Radio Holland then successfully tendered for a second MARAD contract for the radars and ECDIS in June.

Radio Holland Revamps Cruise Ship Bridge

Holland America Line’s cruise ship MS Noordam recently underwent a 10-day dry-dock period, during which it was fit with a customized bridge from Radio Holland. The work on Netherlands-flagged MS Noordam included refitting the navigation and bridge systems to improve working conditions in line with HAL’s Bridge Resource Management concept. Radio Holland, a supplier, installer and maintainer of maritime electronics, also provided additional equipment including an upgrade of the autopilot interface with the propulsion systems to deliver fuel savings.

How did you come to a career in the maritime industry? There were a number of factors that led me to this career. Growing up in a small seaport town along the banks of the River Clyde, I remember from a young age being captivated by the variety of ships sailing by and wondering what it would be like to work on them.

Imtech Appoints Campbell to Lead Imtech Marine USA

Imtech Marine has appointed Fergus Campbell as the new Director of Imtech Marine USA. Fergus has worked for the Imtech Martine company previously (Radio Holland USA) from 2000 to 2010 as respectively Branch Manager Florida, National Service Manager and National Sales manager. Before Radio Holland, Fergus worked amongst others at Consilium Marine as sales and service manager and at Caledonian MacBrayne as superintendent. In 2010, he pursued his career as General Manager at C-MAR America Inc. in Houston, a leading global marine offshore and DP services provider. Fergus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and amongst others studied at the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. Imtech Marine Appoints New Sales Managers

Imtech Marine is pleased to announce the addition of two Area Sales Managers to the Radio Holland USA team. Mike Pizer of Houston, and John Schwiering of Ft. Lauderdale recently joined the Radio Holland sales team, adding more than 40 years of navigation and communication experience to the RHUSA sales organization. Radio Holland is a member of the global company Imtech Marine. Recently Imtech Marine announced the expansion of its service network in the USA to a total of 15 ports and its intentions of further growth to provide on the spot quality service to ship owners.

Imtech Marine Reshapes Radio Holland US Ops

Imtech Marine will reshape its Radio Holland organization in the US. Key initiatives include the expansion of the service network to an increased number of ports; the broadening of the product portfolio; the consolidation of service dispatch and back office functions into one central location; and the increase of flexibility of the current logistics operations. Radio Holland will place service engineers in additional ports around the US. In the initial phase the company will expand to serve 15 locations, by adding 4 new ports to itsnetwork: Charleston - SC, Savannah - GA, Corpus Christi – TX and Portland – OR. Through the expansion of the network, Radio Holland USA can better serve customers in all ports without the delay.

L-3 GAI Appoints Schwiering as Sales Manager

L-3 G.A International (L-3 GAI) announced that it has appointed John Schwiering as the sales manager of its Seattle, Wash. office.Schwiering was formerly a regional sales manager for Japan Radio Company and has over 20 years of experience in the maritime industry. Radio Holland Contract with Alaska

Radio Holland USA has been awarded a multi-year contract for supply of VSAT and airtime services for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). The fleet, a division of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, State of Alaska, is made up of 11 vessels; transporting people and vehicles to 34 locations along the Alaska coastline and along a 1000 mile stretch of the Aleutian Chain to the Bering Sea. The route goes through the Inside Passage and passes through islands with high mountains and steep fjords. Due to the extreme northern latitudes and the rugged terrain, typical off the shelf supplied equipment and airtime services would not meet the demanding requirements for the AMHS.

Imtech Marine Group Service Office in Florida

Imtech Schiffbau-/Dockbau-technik, headquartered in Hamburg/Germany, will open a new Service Branch Office in May 2010. The branch will offer the full range of mechanical Imtech services, e.g. HVAC conversions, maintenance, and spare parts. Refurbishments for chillers and compressors will be done in Imtech’s own workshop. The office will be located in the Ft. Seacoast is Now Radio Holland USA

Radio Holland Group announced that as of Jan. 15 2009, the business of Seacoast Electronics and Radio Holland USA was fully merged into a single company. Seacoast became part of the Radio Holland Group organization in 2007. Since then, the cooperation between Radio Holland USA and Seacoast has become intensive, synergies have been identified and applied, and now the time has come to fully team up and become one organization. Seacoast Electronics has begun trading as Radio Holland USA from the Jacksonville and Tampa offices, which now also carry the Radio Holland name. As a result the Seacoast name will cease to exist. Marco Shipyard: Rolling With The Changes

Over their lifetime, fishing vessels are arguably the most robustly constructed maritime structures around, due to their continuous operation in the most arduous of conditions. Marco Shipyard in Seattle — founded in 1953 — built its business and reputation in the fishing industry, producing boats for operation around the globe. In fact, Peter G. Schmidt, company founder and president, was an innovator in the use of steel construction for the fishing vessel market, which previously consisted mostly of wooden boats. Third Tractor Tug Delivered to Harley

The newest tractor tug to come out of MARCO Shipyard Seattle is the 105-ft. Millennium Dawn, the third boat in its class designed and built for Harley Marine Services of Seattle, and the twelfth tractor tug from MARCO. It will join her sister ships operating in Long Beach, Calif., part of Harley’s West Coast and Alaska operations that in clued Olympic Tug & Barge, Millenium maritime, Pacific Coast Maritime, Public Service marine and Westoil Marine Services. Like her predecessors, the new tug is a powerful, multipurpose vessel, capable of providing ship assist, inland and ocean towing, and escort services. Her rugged design has evolved from MARCO’s first tractor tug, the Gyrfalcon, operated by Pacific Coast Maritime.

New Deliveries

San Rafael, a 204 x 44 x 16 ft. OSV was recently launched by Eastern Shipbuilding Group. The vessel is being constructed for Naviera Tamaulipas, S.A. de C.V. of Tampico, Mexico, for operations in the Bahia de Campeche fields off Eastern Mexico. Capacities include 110,000 gallons of fuel, 211,000 gallons of drill water/ballast, 7,200 cu. ft. of bulk mud in six tanks, and 3,012 barrels of liquid mud. The propulsion plant consists of a pair of Caterpillar 3516B main engines rated at 2,000 hp each @ 1,600 rpm, complete with Caterpillar Engine Vision Alarm and Monitoring System, coupled to Reintjes WAF-862 gearboxes, with 96 in. diameter, four-blade stainless steel propellers.

Radio Holland USA Opens RH Long Beach Branch Operation

Radio Holland USA Inc. has appointed William Thompson as the branch Manager of the Long Beach, Calif., office. Historically, the Long Beach office has been a service center supporting the Radio Holland Group brand for the past 23 years. As Branch Manager for the West Coast territory branch operation, Bill will be instrumental in our growth which includes not only service for our global customer base but also equipment sales and service, fleet management via Fixed Price Maintenance Contracts, VSAT / INMARSAT equipment and Airtime sales and service, as well as S-VDR sales and service. Thompson comes to Radio Holland USA with a management background including positions as General Manager of a national maritime retailer, regulatory compliance consultant and security and safety director.

SIMRAD Expands West Coast Staff

SIMRAD has expanded its sales team with the addition of Michael Lynn as its Commercial Sales Manager USA West Coast. Lynn will concentrate on working with SIMRAD dealers to facilitate sales to commercial fishing, tug boat, workboat, and coastal transportation customers. “Michael’s considerable experience in marine electronics as well as his superlative communications skills made him the obvious choice for this position,” said Brian Staton, president of SIMRAD Inc. Lynn, 53, brings more than 20 years of experience in the marine electronics industry including positions at Radio Holland, USA (Houston, TX), Raytheon Marine Co. (Nashua, NH) and Sea Mar Electronics Inc. (Seattle, WA). In addition, Lynn has five years of retail store management experience.

Vessel Deliveries

California Fish & Game recently took delivery of P/V Thresher, a 54 ft. all-aluminum catamaran, designed by Teknicraft of Aukland, New Zealand, and built by Kvichak Marine, of Seattle, Wash. The partially foil-supported catamaran will be stationed in Dana Point as a Fish and Game Marine Enforcement patrol vessel for Southern California. The cat's beam is 20.2 ft., and weighs nearly 28 tons fully loaded. Powered by twin Caterpillar 3196 DITA diesel engines, driving 30 in. stainless steel propellers through Twin Disc MG 5114A gears, Thresher cruises at 26 knots with a top speed of 30 knots. Deck equipment includes an aft deck A-frame to deploy and retrieve a customer-supplied Hurricane inflatable.
