SCI adds Pipavav to its SMILE Service

The SMILE service of the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) already having an established Coastal market from Mundra and Pipavav to Cochin / Tuticorin will now have a direct Exim service from Pipavav to Jebel Ali. The service will cater to the Exim Trade from Pipavav to Gulf. The Exim call at Pipavav is in the interest of SCI’s valued customers in terms of providing an efficient and reliable service for Coastal as well as Exim cargo. The SMILE service is a dedicated SCI Service having 3 x 1600 teu Indian Flag vessels catering to Gulf Markets from Indian subcontinent and Coastal Trade on the west coast of India. SCI in its continuous efforts to facilitate shipping solutions to the Indian trade has now upgraded the Exim port call on the SMILE Service.

Indian Navy Patrol Vessel Sinks

An Indian Navy patrol vessel sank off the coast of Goa after a collision with a merchant carrier, an official release said in New Delhi on Saturday. INS Prahar, a 450 ton vessel, sank just after midnight following a collision with the MV Rajiv Gandhi, a container carrier of the Shipping Corporation of India, 35 km west of Goa, it said. The collision occurred at about 21:45 hours on Friday night, the release said, adding damage to the merchant carrier was minimal and she had been anchored off the coast. Seventy-three crew members of the naval ship have been rescued. Six naval and two coast guard ships, one Dornier aircraft, two naval helicopters and merchant vessels have been deployed for search and rescue operations.
