Raytheon Anschütz Expands to the U.S.

While the rest of the world is seemingly in contraction mode, and positive forecasts regarding the maritime industry are few and far between, one marine electronics major is in expansion mode, planting the seeds now and perhaps raising the flag for the inevitable rebound to come. Raytheon Anschütz announced last month that it is expanding its presence in the U.S. navigation systems market with the opening of its San Diego, Calif.-based operations in January 2012. Frank Christophersen, US Vice President Sales, was tapped to lead the effort, and in talking with Maritime Reporter he explained.

Raytheon Anschütz expands to USA

Raytheon Anschütz is expanding its presence in the U.S. navigation systems market with the opening of its San Diego, Calif.-based operations in January 2012. The business area will be co-located at Raytheon’s established facility, dedicated to the development and delivery of naval and maritime systems and technology. With the new office, Raytheon Anschütz focuses its capabilities in providing navigation systems and customer support to the U.S. maritime industry. The U.S. office will promote the full portfolio of Raytheon Anschütz’s navigation  components and solutions, including gyro compasses, autopilots and steering controls, radars, ECDIS and complete integrated bridge systems for both, new and retrofit projects.

Raytheon Enters Agreement With STN Atlas

Raytheon Marine Company High Seas Products (RMC) has entered into a cooperative agreement with STN Atlas Marine Electronics for worldwide distribution of Inmarsat-B Satellite Communication Systems. The agreement, which calls for Raytheon to offer its own branded supplemental Inmarsat-B satellite communication system, is expected to raise annual sales for the company. The company's already extensive selection of navigation and communications systems includes the Raytheon Mini-M 3064A Maritime Satellite Telephone, medium frequency/high frequency, Inmarsat-C and very high frequency products. The company will offer the Inmarsat-B as a component of its communication package and as a stand-alone unit.

SIMRAD Expands West Coast Staff

SIMRAD has expanded its sales team with the addition of Michael Lynn as its Commercial Sales Manager USA West Coast. Lynn will concentrate on working with SIMRAD dealers to facilitate sales to commercial fishing, tug boat, workboat, and coastal transportation customers. “Michael’s considerable experience in marine electronics as well as his superlative communications skills made him the obvious choice for this position,” said Brian Staton, president of SIMRAD Inc. Lynn, 53, brings more than 20 years of experience in the marine electronics industry including positions at Radio Holland, USA (Houston, TX), Raytheon Marine Co. (Nashua, NH) and Sea Mar Electronics Inc. (Seattle, WA). In addition, Lynn has five years of retail store management experience.

Raytheon and Nauticast Combine Efforts

Raytheon has widened their product offering and is now also offering a SOLAS Class A ship borne AIS Transponder through their worldwide Reseller Network. The new RM 808 AIS is Wheelmark Type Approved by BSH, Germany, and is exclusively produced by Nauticast Schiffsnavigationssysteme AG, Austria. Nauticast supplies the RM 808 AIS based on their own X-Pack DS design, together with extended warranty and high-end accessories for ease of installation. "It is the unique technology and design of the system which convinced us to choose this model. It is the perfect choice for new builds as well as suiting our strategic focus on the retrofit market. Apart from these technological considerations, the superior quality and availability also count." says Raytheon Marine.

Raytheon to Supply T45 with IBS, Nav Package

Raytheon Marine GmbH won the contract with Raytheon Systems Limited U.K., to supply the Navigation suite and Integrated Bridge equipment, for the first batch of the new Type 45 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyers. Raytheon, in close partnership with the U.K. PCO, will develop this opportunity to promote the Navigation and Bridge systems as a leader in state-of-the-art, fully integrated and innovative integration technology. Raytheon Marine, Kiel is responsible for the complete supply (Hard and Software) of all Navigation System equipment, and the development and subsequent supply of major components physically integrated Bridge. Raytheon Systems Ltd. maintains leading tasks in the Program, and ILS Management.

Mackay Attains Raytheon's Field Service Locations

Mackay Communications, provider of communications and electronics equipment and services for the maritime industry has acquired Raytheon Marine Company's seven U.S. field service locations. The addition of the Raytheon business - four on the east coast and three on the west coast - expands Mackay's presence to all include all major U.S. ports. The new locations will operate as part of Mackay, which is the wholly-owned service division of Mackay Communications. For support of Raytheon's customer base, Mackay has hired Raytheon's factory-trained marine technicians, and has made a substantial investment in spare parts and equipment inventory of marine technicians.

Raytheon Completes Bridge System Installation

Raytheon Marine, provider of marine electronics, has installed its newest electronic bridge system on the 164 ft. (50 m) yacht Invader, a private yacht currently performing its maiden voyage from Italy to California. Built at the Codecasa shipyard in Viareggio, Italy, Invader's new electronic bridge system is comprised of various Raytheon marine navigation products including S-band and X-band Pathfinder®/ST MK Radar Systems and the Standard 20 Digital Gyro Compass. All components are designed specifically for high seas shipping and merchant vessels, and are utilized in Raytheon's Integrated Bridge Systems that are classified according to DNV (Watch 1 Certification).

Raytheon And Samsung Collaborate On Bridge System

Raytheon Marine and Samsung Industries have entered into a cooperative agreement to meld key components of Raytheon's Integrated Bridge System into Samsung's Naru 2000, which is an ECDIS-based Integrated Navigation System. The agreement is designed to further additional business in Asian markets - a large chunk of the industry's shipbuilding. The joint-venture with Samsung is expected to bring in an additional $10 million per year in new sales revenue. Formatted for commercial vessels, Samsung's fully-integrated Naru 2000 boasts premier safety oriented technologies, such as a Weather Information System and a Collision Avoidance System.
