Portland Port Welcomes New Tug
Portland Port in the U.K. said it has taken delivery of new tug Rupert Best.Built in Turkey in 2019 to a Robert Allan Ltd. design, the Sanmar Sirapinar class âRAmparts 2200â azimuth stern drive tug will increase and help support the portâs ability to welcome larger vessels. The tug has a bollard pull of 50t and her two Caterpillar engines deliver a total of 3,000 kw. STEHMO Investing $10 Mln, Adding 100 Jobs
Ship maintenance and repair company ST Engineering Halter Marine and Offshore, Inc., said it is investing $10 million to expand at its Pascagoula, Miss. site, adding 100 jobs in the process.STEHMO, along with its sister company VT Halter Marine, is growing as a result of recent market opportunities. The expansion will enable the company to perform new commercial repair work for larger ships and oil platforms that require greater size and lifting capacity. STEHMO is adding dock space and water depth adjacent to its Bayou Casotte site.

Alaska and parts of western Canada braced for a possible tsunami on Tuesday after a magnitude-7.9 earthquake struck the Gulf of Alaska, sparking evacuations in coastal Alaska and a tsunami warning for California that was later lifted. Edison Chouest Opening Mississippi Shipyard
Edison Chouest Offshore locating shipbuilding operations, TopShip, LLC, in Gulfport, Miss. Gov. Phil Bryant and officials from Edison Chouest Offshore, an offshore energy service and supply company, officially announced today the company is locating shipbuilding operations at the Port of Gulfport in Gulfport, Miss. The project represents a $68 million corporate investment and will create 1,000 full-time jobs. Edison Chouest Offshoreâs new Gulfport operations, TopShip, LLC, will be located at the Port of Gulfportâs new inland port on Seaway Road.

The newly built M/V Dan Reeves was commissioned in January of 2016 for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Little Rock District. Built by Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., Bayou La Batre, Ala., overseen by the USACE Marine Design, the 95-foot-long vessel is designed to comply with proposed USCG Subchapter M Requirements. Power and propulsion is provided by tow Cat C32 WOSR âCâ Rated main engines, giving 1,300 HP Each at 1,800-2,100rpm, along with two Thrustmaster TM1500MZ Z-Drives with 5.74:1 Reduction Gear Ratio. Escort Tug Launched for Bay-Houston Towing
Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launch of the Escort Tug H. DOUGLAS M (Hull 236) for Bay-Houston Towing Company on November 17, 2015. This series of Robert Allan, LTD. (RAL) designed Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs is currently under construction at Easternâs Nelson Street facility. The H. DOUGLAS M is scheduled to deliver in early 2016. The launch ceremony was held at Easternâs Nelson Street facility and hosted by Joey DâIsernia, President of Eastern, with employees and guests in attendance. Mr. DâIsernia praised all the hard work by the employees and Father Roy Marien of St. Johnâs Catholic Church of Panama City, FL. blessed the vessel. Joeyâs daughter, Blair, had the honor of christening the vessel.
Baker Hughes helping IOG develop North Sea resource base
Independent Oil and Gas PLC (IOG) is extending its seismic remapping agreement with Baker Hughesâ Reservoir Development Services (RDS) group to better understand resource potential for its Blythe and Cronx/Elgood projects in the Southern North Sea (SNS), with an expected delivery date of late July 2015. âWe are pleased to strengthen our relationship with RDS as the initial results from the seismic remapping work are positive,â said Mark Routh, IOGâs Chief Executive Officer. âWe believe that the added field remapping will help to better predict resource potential and accessibility,â said Scott Reeves, President of Reservoir Development Services. RDS will also evaluate IOGâs future prospects and discoveries in the SNS including, Truman, Harvey, Hambleton, Tetley and Rebellion.
Rolls-Royce to Supply Engines for First Seabed Mining Vessel
Rolls-Royce has secured a landmark agreement to supply six of its new B33:45 medium-speed diesel generator sets to Chinaâs Fuijan Mawei shipyard for configuration aboard the worldâs first ever seabed mining vessel. Los Angeles Unveils Plans for Faster Cargo Flow
A new program that expedites cargo by streamlining container moves is speeding up operations at the Port of Los Angeles. Launched February 25, the "Peel Off" Program has added a new operational model to the Port to clear the current backlog of containers and improve the flow of cargo going forward. "We have found an efficient way to get containers to their destination that is beginning to pay off," said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. âWeâre acting on our pledge to our customers to harmonize the supply chain and make it work better. Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) informs that it has held a graduation ceremony for graduates of Ingalls Shipbuilding's Apprentice School. The ceremony, held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention Center, celebrated the accomplishments of 72 students representing various crafts at Ingalls. This is the first graduating class that had students who attended classes in the new Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy. Through the academy, Ingalls is entering into a new phase of partnership with the Mississippi Community College System that offers a path into bachelor's degree programs. Stanford Marine Charters Out PSV
Dubai headquartered regional offshore marine business, Stanford Marine, says it has secured a 3 year contract with Mexishi for one of its 87m Platform Supply Vessels, 'Stanford Bateleur', in Mexico. Before commencing her long term charter in Mexico, Stanford Bateleur will be in Dubai to undergo some project specific modifications, having been working on charter in Malaysia with Haliburton and in Qatar with Maersk Oil, since her delivery in early 2013. Pemex, the end user, will operate the vessel as an âInjector Vesselâ out of the port of Dos Bocas, in the state of Tabasco. The Bateleur will join her smaller sister vessel, the 58m DP1 Stanford Goshawk, which has been working out of the neighboring port of Cd. Del Carmen in Campeche for the last 12 months.
Stanford Hawk to Support Total E&P
Stanford Marine announced from its Dubai headquarters that it has secured a five-year contract with Total E&P Angola for Stanford Hawk, the latest addition to its fleet. Total E&P Angola (TEPA) awarded Stanford Marine a five-year contract, with two two-year options, scheduled to commence by the beginning of February 2014. The Stanford Hawk will be supporting the process and storage activities of TEPA, by transporting personnel and cargo, as well as assisting in safety standby duties.
Mississippi Governor Visits Ingalls Shipbuilding
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant visited Huntington Ingalls Industriesâ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding facility, meeting with shipyard officials on workforce development and training initiatives and touring Ingalls' Maritime Training Academy, the company announced.
