Waste-to-Chemistry Project Comes up in Rotterdam Port
A consortium of companies comprising Air Liquide, AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals, Enerkem and the Port of Rotterdam Authority has signed a development agreement for the initial investments in an advanced waste-to-chemistry plant in Rotterdam. The aim is that this will be the first plant of this type in Europe to offer a sustainable alternative for waste incineration, by converting plastic and mixed waste into new raw materials for industry. These investments – for detailed engineering, the establishment of a special joint-venture and the conclusion of the licensing procedure – amount to some € 9 million. Seacat Set for Offshore Wind Rush
9th January 2017, Isle of Wight – Class-leading offshore energy service vessel (OESV) operator, Seacat Services, has invested heavily in its operational team and logistical support infrastructure, based on the Isle of Wight. Ahead of the major offshore wind construction phase beginning in April this year, the business has moved into a new purpose-designed headquarters in Cowes and continued to strengthen its support team. The investment represents a further commitment to supporting local industry on the Isle of Wight, in conjunction with successful regional training initiatives and an ongoing, highly productive six-year relationship with local boat builder South Boats IoW.
Falmouth Cruise Business Up 72%
Increasing cruise ship business brought visitors of 51 different nationalities to Falmouth during 2003 – a number that could rise even higher this year. Over the space of just three years, the port’s cruise business has risen by 72% - up from 25 ships in 2002, to 39 last year and 43 already booked for 2004. The majority of visitors are currently American, followed by British and German passengers but many other nationalities also book onto the cruises that come to the port.
