Schneider Joins FarSounder Board

Cruise ship marine operations expert John Schneider is joining the board of directors at FarSounder, Inc. Over the last 12 years, Schneider has worked in the cruise ship segment of the marine industry as fuel and energy optimization manager (Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises), superintendent engineer (Celebrity Cruises), and as vessel manager for ResidenSea’s residential passenger vessel The World. In this position, he was responsible for the overall management of the vessel within the marine operations department reporting to both WSM and to ResidenSea's Senior Management.

MJM Group Buys Mivan

MJM Group Chairman Brian McConville announced that he has bought Mivan out of administration. Established in 1983 by the McConville family, MJM Group refurbishes Cruise Liners, Ferries, Super Yachts, luxury hotel and leisure facilities, office and retail and private residential. Mivan, one of Northern Ireland's best known construction companies, was founded by Ivan McCabrey in 1975 and specialized in fitting out cruise ships and high-end commercial and residential developments. Earlier this week, Mivan announced that they have ceased trading, but this news means that the Mivan brand will continue. “There are obvious synergies between the two operations which will allow us great efficiencies and economies of scale.

WSS Japan to manage Harmony Cruise port calls

Harmony Cruise, Korea’s newest cruise operator, has chosen Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) to provide ships agency services at ports on its Japan itinerary. Harmony Cruise was launched in February 2012 by Seoul-based Polaris Shipping, offering a variety of three and four-day cruises in the South Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Russian markets. Its Japanese itinerary will include calls at Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka, Hakata, Nagasaki and Kagoshima, representing ship’s agency services for WSS.

Sea Goddess Fire Detection Upgraded

M/V’s luxury cruise ships ‘Sea Goddess I and II’. KMSS will be supplying its Autronica fire detection system to these identical sister ships. The order follows the recent demand from the National Safety Transport Board in USA for an integrated Local Buzzer in each cabin smoke detector. KMSS is the only company capable of delivering the ‘smart buzzer’ mounted inside the detector. This buzzer does not require any extra cabling as it is powered from the detector loop. after 30 seconds, allowing the passenger to hear the Ship’s PA system after the local alarm. The upgrade consists of approximately 400 detectors and other field devices per ship, with delivery expected early 2002. replace a system from Thorn Security that was installed in 1994.

MTN Enters The World

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a Verestar company, has signed a three-year contract with ResidenSea to become the exclusive telecommunications provider for its new vessel, The World, the first resort community at sea that continuously runs around the globe. MTN was awarded the competitive contract in collaboration with Norwegian agent, General Industry Systems, located in Stavanger, Norway. Specialists in providing communications facilities for all maritime vessels as well as the cruise line industry using total global satellite services, MTN will install its Digital Ship Earth Station (DSES) onboard The World within the next few months.

A World of Controversy

It was a concept like no other. A floating home where guests could virtually visit a variety of exotic ports in far off places from the comforts of their own luxurious accommodations. Imagine pulling into Cannes during its renowned film festival, stepping out into Monaco during its Grand Prix, or ringing in the New Year in Hawaii. The World of ResidenSea, a Bahamas-based company envisioned by well-known cruise shipping magnate Knut Kloster Jr. was established to offer these amenities via its luxury apartments ranging from 1,106 to 3,242 sq. ft. Costing anywhere from $2.2 - $7.5 million per apartment, the vessel was touted as a breakthrough in luxury cruising. While this may sound too good to be true — it actually is.

Shipboard Life in Style

A new concept in luxury living and travel has been brought to realization with the completion of the much-vaunted ResidenSea ship, The World, which made its service debut at European ports during April. The unique vessel, home to a resort community continuously circumnavigating the globe, is the brainchild of Knut U. Kloster Jr., and is a testament to the Nordic maritime sector's propensity for innovation. Mr. Kloster was former chairman of Royal Viking Line and Norwegian Cruise Lines, and his father was a pioneer in the cruise industry, operating vessels out of Miami in the early 1960s. Several prominent cruise, shipping and hospitality industry investors have joined Kloster in funding the company ResidenSea, registered at Freeport, Bahamas.

New World To Boast MacGregor Packages

Touted as the world's first luxury floating resort, the World of ResidenSea will feature MacGregor elevators and other equipment in packages worth approximately $2 million. The 40,000-gt vessel is currently under construction at Fosen Mek Verksteder yard for Silversea Cruises. MacGregor's passenger ship division will supply a turn-key elevator package to the vessel, while the group's Global Services Division office in Norway has been awarded the contract to supply equipment including: entrance doors, stores doors, shore connection doors, two hatch covers and two lifting platforms. The vessel's elevator specification comprises eight MacGregor elevators, four of which are designated for passengers - with the remainder to be used for service.

The world's first ocean-going luxury resort is scheduled to be afloat late in 2001 now that Bahamas-registered ResidenSea has secured financing and found a builder, according to company officials. The vessel for the rich, dubbed The World of ResidenSea, was conceived four years ago by Norwegian cruise magnate Knut Kloster Jr. Flagging cruise line share prices coupled with turmoil in the world financial market over the past few years prompted the firm to cut the size and cost of the ship to 40,000 tons at $350 million from an initial 86,000 tons at $545 million.

The world's first ocean-going luxury resort is scheduled to be afloat late in 2001 now that Bahamas-registered ResidenSea has secured financing and found a builder, company officials said. The vessel for the rich, dubbed The World of ResidenSea, was conceived four years ago by Norwegian cruise magnate Knut Kloster Jr. "After four years of an uphill struggle...we have finally made it," Henning Oeglaend, chairman of the board of ResidenSea, said at a ceremonial contract signing in Oslo with the ship's Norwegian-based builder, Fosen Mek. Verksteder AS. Flagging cruise line share prices, coupled with turmoil in the world financial market over the past few years prompted the firm to cut the size and cost of the ship to 40,000 tons at $350 million from an initial 86,000 tons at $545 million.
